a) Backlog from Christmas
b) East Germany, particularly Saxony and Thüringen, as I mentioned before, it’s completely out of control there, numbers are like 6 times higher in some areas than in Cologne for example. AfD is just not good for your health.
Didn’t the Eastern German states had mandatory BCG vaccination. Didn’t it offer some immunity.
Apparently not.
Even if BCG vaccination had some kind of positive effect against Covid-19 (afaik that is just a theory?), I’m not sure that would still be there after 30 plus years.
True, I haven’t seen any scientific/medical proofs that BCG vaccines builds some/any immunity to COVID.
Most children in Singapore have BCG vaccination during our childhood years, at least during my time in the 70s and 80s. It is supposed to last a lifetime but I think somewhere around 20 years probably is most effective? And it has being put forward as a possible way to slow down Covid-19 etc but no concrete studies have proven that. And it is dangerous to use this vaccination without any proven data simply because that means taking vaccination stock away from children who might fall prey to TB which kills millions of people yearly too.
I think it’s a myth (at best) or even misinformation.
Compulsory BCG vaccination is practiced in Bangladesh too and we have over half a million recorded cases already. On personal level around 10 of my family members, aged between 70s and 30s, caught the virus and all of them had the vaccine.
So, yeah, the BCG vaccines isn’t any deterrent against COVID.
The evidence on the BCG and covid is intriguing but weak. It is the sort of stuff that is useful to drive further investigation, but should not factor into clinical guidelines or approaches.
I never appreciated it until recently given it was a right of passage in British schools when I was there 20 years ago, but the US has never done mass BCG vaccinations. That means they can do cohort studies here that you couldnt do in many other places (people who have had it vs those who havent). What those studies have shown is that those who had it were less likely to have Covid antibodies. That means, if all other things are equal (and they never are in this sort of study, it’s called a cohort bias) then BCG vaccinated people can mount a defense against COVID exposure (again, assuming that exposure is equal between the two groups), with their existing immunity rather than having to mount a new defense against a new virus.
In terms of hierarchy of scientific evidence, these sorts of studies are pretty low on the continuum.
More British tourists behaving badly, in this case attempting to leave after being found positive.
A friend is living there for a year on their Welcome visa, took his whole family and is working remotely. His teenage son is developing a deep dislike for the British. Virtually every quarantine incident since September has been by a British citizen.
I’m sure if you looked into it further, you would find more cases of quarantine breaches by other nationalities, but the Brits when travelling do seem to have a self rightious belief that local laws don’t apply to them in normal circumstances. Sadly Australians also have a similar disregard for local customs and laws when they find themselves abroad.
Speechless
Part of me wants to say that this is predominantly and English thing, but I can’t. As an island we are a large scale bunch of fuckwits
With Barbados, they have one incident not involving a Brit, an American who decided that 2 days was enough quarantine.
What is it with these people? Ignorance and egoism go hand in hand there… it seems to me that there is a clear deficit in education at hand. Haven’t these idiots had parents or what? Or is it because they are abroad and have been taught that they can behave as they want and rules don’t apply to them when they are traveling?
Seriously struggling to make any sense of this.
Anti-vaxxers have been allowed to fester unchallenged for far too long. I was stunned to see DeWine say that Ohio is seeing a 60% vaccine refusal rate among nursing home workers.
Update - local transmission has occurred in Barbados. Whole island going into lockdown curfew to maintain zero state.
Your second suggestion would be my guess. Colonialism still runs strong I’m afraid
Not surprised by their disregard for laws (although not going to make a sweeping statement). My friend who opens a few drinking and entertainment spots in Bangkok told me the top 3 nationalities that create the most trouble for them or are just “I am king because my money is so big” are: South Koreans, British and Australians. With the former still having the mentality that spending money means you have to kowtow to them and with the Brits and Australians being pretty ok until they drink some alcohol where they can become monsters.
And unfortunately even a few of them in such uncertain times will create a bad impression for the bigger majority who follows the rules.
Why is Coronavirus still a problem?
Fuckwits
