The Corona Pandemic

ok I’m going to try an lighten the mood a little with this video. I swear this is the love child of @Scott.Jones and @jaffod but somehow made it stateside and loves snowboarding. There is added interest in that ski resorts in the US are open but with restrictions.

Yeah, I can only agree. And the truth is that infection gets into a nursery home, many, many more will die from the virus than will have an allergic reaction to a vaccine. But of course, these vaccines have been developed at what is a record pace, so potential long term bi-effects isn’t possible to know at current. But for those in the highest age groups, the small risk of a vaccine is far, far less than the extremely high risk of the virus.
I have been trying to explain this to distraught Norwegians who have become very skeptical. I think it is the mere idea that the elderly are technically used as guinea pigs as you say that makes most people react negatively, but there are no other good option. We have all seen the death rates this virus has if it gets into an environment where there are multiple persons above 80. Any possible negative consequences of the vaccine, including a few deaths, will be far, far less overall and that is what actually matters. But psychologically, the “idea” of the elderly using an untested vaccine, gets a lot of people to react negatively even though there isn’t really a very good reason for that. We need to immunise a relatively large percentage to hope to get anything like herd immunity, which Swedish and other epidemiologists initially hoped was possible without a vaccine. But it doesn’t seem possible, so vaccines are the only good tool we have to get out of this awful situation.

As for those who does not want elderly to get the vaccine, these are hard men and women who think biological effectiveness. I don’t share their thoughts or philosophy at all, and it makes me irate to read such stuff.

Just heard that my father has been given an appointment for the vaccine this Saturday. So it’s good to hear that we’re up and running even in this relatively rural area.

I ended up watching it all, just because that’s a fascinatingly direct common sense guy. I didn’t expect him to spend 6 minutes actually talking sense.

I know. I found it quite funny to be honest. In your face thing with wear a mask or fuck off type of attitude. I’ve also just learned that he has a court summons after asking someone to wear a mask in a store, the other guy kicked off and he beat the crap out of him.

i’m in the middle of my Winter blues right now. Last year we managed a ski holiday, first time in 8 years or so. That was always my Winter release as when you came back Spring seemed a lot closer than it did a week previously. Not holiday this year though, and I blame @Arminius for mentioning his favourite resort which then got me into the whole idea of looking forward to next Winter maybe.

It’s been a great help to be honest. All of a sudden I’ve got focus to save money for, lose weight and get back into shape (i’ve been on the bike a lot that last couple of weeks) and of course look at some new gear of which I use this guys reviews as one resource to look into stuff. Planning 12 months out is a whole new thing but it’s got my head going in the right direction.

Here’s a good one

"Zara issued an apology to Barbados Today for her actions saying: “I wish to apologise to the entire country of Barbados for what has been a massive mix up and misunderstanding.”

She added: "I am currently working closely with the local authorities to rectify any issues on my part and will issue an update and full statement which I think is the only right thing to do to the Government and citizens of Barbados.

“I have been a guest of this lovely island in excess of 20 years and would never do anything to jeopardise an entire nation that I have nothing but loved and respect for and which has treated me as a family.” "

Absolute twat of the first order, they should both be jailed fined the maximum amount and barred from Barbados for life.
I won’t give my true opinion as I don’t like to use bad language :innocent:

Ludicrous. She would have paid 4K to cycle her absurd quasi-celebrity status through the newspapers.

They sentenced a Jamaican to 6 months custodial for almost exactly the same offence.

MUCH higher numbers of kids in primary schools in my area. Early in the year it was mostly 5% or less. Now over 20%. Interesting. Trouble is the schools are now struggling to balance the two as a teacher can’t teach a class of several kids and run a zoom meeting.

Our head had to send a letter out begging people to reconsider if they actually need school provision. It was over a third of the normal capacity.

  1. I know a lot of those people are just fucking lying.

  2. If a third of kids go into schools then the whole point of a lockdown is redundant.

One of my heads sent a letter out with words to the effect of:

“If you send your child into school because you must work, we will be writing to your employer and requesting play slips to confirm.”

Amazingly lots of kids didn’t show up. Your employer can furlough you if you have no child care, not a commonly known fact. Fuck all help when you work for yourself though…

A lot of them don’t want to do the childcare. Simple as that.

Our head has basically told parent there is a strict LA limit to how many kids can be in, and there is a priority list, with vulnerable kids at the top.

Shaven chocolate chips or just chocolate chip cookies? :cookie:

I agree. There must be some punishment even if some people will find it over the top. There is an old chinese idiom that would some quite funny in English but it says killing the chickens to scare the monkeys. Examples need to be made but I guess in some countries, that would trigger some protests again.

Please make sure your families are aware that babies can catch this - and the symptoms they get.

For those more in the know; what is the deal with Ivermectin as a treatment? There has been quite a row here relating to using it as a treatment and the Government has banned its use in humans.
