In all seriousness, it is most definitely on the list. I have found a tour operator that covers Fernie from the UK

However I think I’d like to get the missus and little’un up to speed on skis before venturing to somewhere as epic as that. I’d want them to tour the mountain as well. I could also do with improving a fair bit as well.

Plus we’re not 100% everything will be in the clear by early 2022 are we? It seems a long way off but it’ll be on top of us in no time.

No - not clear at all, though I expect by next Fall every Canadian will have been vaccinated, despite a shaky start.

Fernie is, however, a fantastic place for learners. The mountain is so big that it is never crowded, and the lower reaches have some green circle runs that are over a hundred metres wide and incredibly long. Unlike most of the European resorts I have been to, it is not really a mountain so much as a very high ridge, so there are far more runs. There are basically no lift lines on weekdays. When I was learning how to telemark, the difference in my skill from Monday and Saturday was unreal.

Just looked again. Gawd it’s tempting but probably out of budget. I will however keep an eye on it over the next few months I think.

Looks ideal to be honest, and its a powder keg.

Isn’t it obvious? Australia has gone full China and is lying about its figures.

What other possible explanation could there be? The ineptitude of the British government? Nah…

A very interesting piece here:

Lots of people simply cannot afford to stay at home; more should be done to help them.

I would be surprised if these anti rhematic drugs weren’t used in conjonction with anti biotics, yet it doesn’t say anything. (It’s a bit of a wonder as hydroxychloroquine appeared to have an effect in ‘early’ stages when used in conjonction with certain antibiotics).
No, I don’t think these 'reports are honest.

Plenty of other stories from the last few weeks in a similar vein.
Maybe people should listen instead of behaving like everything is normal

BBC is reporting that some schools are seeing up to 60% of students returning to school. Part of the problem suggested to be an increasing number of parents being classified as critical workers.

My local nursery has sent out an email asking parents that if it was to re-open within the next couple of weeks, would they send their children. I really don’t know how best to reply. I was leaning towards doing so as I was assuming that there would be few students from the Primary school attending - but am now reading the BBC website and looking at infection numbers in my area which are higher than i expected, and am slowly backing away from it.

There’s a rumour on the grapevine that schools will be shutting once the new variant takes hold. Don’t shoot the messenger, just the gossip on the ground.

London cases running at about 80% B117, I’d say it has taken hold.

The UK is just bizarre. It has contributed what is probably the best global shot at beating it with a vaccine, and over half of global genetic knowledge about covid-19. That is punching way above demographic weigh overall. Yet it has also woefully failed to defend itself in so many ways - and appears now to be embarking on a delayed 2nd dose vaccination strategy that could not possibly be better designed to encourage the emergence of a vaccine-resistant strain.
