Hospitalization lagged by about three weeks in the Spring, I expect similar this time around, with the younger average age of cases reducing the size and slope.
Thats the problem, the government have had no real plan or a good enough one from the first wave to fall back on to stop it/slow it down again during a second wave,6 months wasted as far as i’m concerned.
Lock down should have mean’t lock down,If Boris hadn’t missed the first few Sage/Cobra meetings and shut down sooner and for longer,we probably would have been in a better position.
We are an Island nation,we have no natural borders to shut down to stop the spread, all International and nationwide travel should have been stopped immediately, with only nationals being allowed back in,fully tested and quarantined (if positive) with a few weeks notice to get back home, with clear and obvious statements to stay home unless it was for work, emergencies and food, none of the mixed message shit they came out with.
We are one of the biggest and best countries worldwide in Science and technology, why we couldn’t use these companies,Universities, science labs or any other national institute’s to provide a good track and trace and testing scheme’s beggars belief.
Instead we get open passage through airports with no testing, stay home but go out if…,work but don’t work if…,people gathering in numbers in and around houses because it was not drummed into silly fuckers properly, people allowed to go on holiday earlier, opening up more than Sage wanted and earlier, farcical testing schemes and PPE supplies to the NHS cos of back handers, restrictions weren’t tight or severe enough first time around because of a basic lack of common sense.
In France hospitalisations are lagging behind by a fair bit more than 3 weeks. Problems in PACA have only recently been reported.
I think it could be that testing was very poor before the 1st wave and the virus had actually been circulating for some time before it (but wasn’t picked up). Surely not the only explaination however there are theories the virus was circulating in China months before it was picked up on.
I don’t think even that should have been permitted under any circumstances. An international ‘agreement’ should have been sort so that the hosting nation took total care of them.
There was very clearly community transmission at scale in the first week of March in London, before testing was operating at any kind of significant level.
this is a couple weeks old but hang on for a real treat at about 1:10
Boris Johnson announces new measures to help us avoid a new Lockdown and combat Coronavirus.
Mark Reckless (Leader of The Brexit Party in the Welsh Parliament, MS for South Wales East, as well as a lawyer, economist, husband and father(from his twitter bio)) disagrees and thinks the measures are too much and uncalled for.
Mark Reckless(that really is his name) showing Boris how to be a fuckwit.
Hmmmmm. That’s eerily similar to the profile of someone here.
We have crossed 5.5 Million cases of which 4.5 Million have recovered. Currently our daily recoveries exceed the daily number of new infections. But I fancy us to gain the top spot.
It must be said, however, that the government has always given out the right messages from the beginning (social distancing, masks, etc). Our tough lockdown only delayed the inevitable, and maybe allowed authorities to set up new quarantine centres and temporary hospitals.
Schools have opened in some states where the numbers are low.
Offices and businesses have largely opened, or rather forced to open. WFH is still preferred if possible.
The most interesting (and disturbing) argument I discovered regarding India is that we may NEVER reach the peak, considering the massive population we have.
Anyways, the bigger issue is people themselves. The biggest being not wearing masks or not wearing them properly despite the big fines. Or maintaining social distancing.
I sense a general attitude of people just being fed up. Which was not the case in the initial months. The masks conundrum is a different issue altogether. Almost everyone I see has a mask, but they all wear it below the mouth, across their chin. Sort of irritates me, because you’re just defeating the entire purpose of why masks are needed in the first place.
Am presuming people have accepted it’s something they have to live with, plus the increase in facilities has made everyone less scared than they were earlier.
Can’t see the UK going back into full lockdown unless it goes nuts. Shut pubs first surely.
Had to laugh at the FA and West Ham. Manager and 2 players test positive just before the game so they isolate and the game goes ahead…
Almost as mental as Hull refusing to be tested, probably as they suspected they’d have positive cases and they’d forfeit their league cup match, which then went ahead.
Which is astonishing as I have a family member normally healthy, mid 60s and struggling to breath. (Last week her friend died of Covid-19)
It was so bad she called an ambulance, they took her to hospital and after a few hours she got sent home (irrespective of barley bring able to walk). Told her if her oxygen levels drop further then to ring them .
Can’t get tested as apparently no tests available in Merseyside area.
Another family member got tested in Scotland (as they had been in close contact), and they were given a barcode number. To get your test result you need to call a number… Which is permanently engaged.
It really is a shitshow over there.
So there hasn’t been any lessons learned from the First Wave??? Those thousands of deaths, not to mention the millions of hours of toiling were in vain???
Hubba Hubba
Yes they were.
Remember the UK Government does not give a shit if you live or die.
No really, they do not give a flying f*** about you or your family.
Take your own precautions and make your own decisions about how to keep you and your family safe.Taking Individual responsibility for your own health is the only possible way out of this shitstorm.
What’s the situation in other countries wrecked by the First Wave: France, Spain and Italy??? Do they have a surge too???
UK Contact and trace app is due to be released tomorrow.
Already questions / concerns on how effective it will be.
Meanwhile UK cases are back up to a shade under 4000 cases. Actual probably a lot higher.
4926 22/9 we are fucked.
This is what anyone with a brain cell should be doing anyway.
Unfortunately many people seem incapable of this.
Politicians look out for those important to them and most people are only important to them at voting time.
