The Corona Pandemic

  I rate your incompetent twats far higher than ours sorry.

I think we’ve discovered a whole new level of dumb but it’s good to know we don’t have exclusive rights to it.

That is pretty shameful from him

IMO it’s clear that those two women all over the news after being fined were doing the wrong thing. Taking coffees plus the way they were dressed? Yeah, 100% a social occasion. Just on the face of it it feels like they are in the wrong. Even if the guidance isn’t explicit enough.

What were they doing wrong? Could you explain? Why can’t they take a flask of something hot with them? Maybe they shouldn’t have been allowed to wear coats as well?

I’m probably being naive, but I just don’t see what they’ve done wrong. Five miles isn’t that far away.

Just over an hour by brisk walking pace even less on a bike seems to fit in with local and excercise or aren’t we allowed to cycle anymore let alone take a car to our favorite local beauty site.

Dunno what to say really. :no_mouth:

I’m not shocked or surprised anymore.

I don’t know, if your lock down is that strict, I find it a bit unreasonable and perhaps a bit lacking of common sense, despite your high infection rates. What they did doesn’t increase infection. They were socially distanced and were out in nature. It doesn’t really make sense to me. The reason you shouldn’t go on a trip outdoors is primarily if you go on more difficult trips (like up a mountain, which is irresponsible now, in case you have to be rescued) or if you stay the night in another municipality (not good if you get sick in a place where health care is sized for the population in the municipality) or if you travel from a region with high infection to a region with low infection. That’s my understanding anyway.
Anyway, reading this: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-55560814 , I don’t get it really. A secluded spot bereft of people to infect. Seems a bit strange priority for police to me personally, but I guess they are following the letter of their directions from above very strictly. But it’s just my opinion.
Anyway, I hope they are not socially shamed. They don’t deserve that on top of 200 pounds fine.
But I might lack knowledge about the case. Maybe I do.

Japan has a B117 outbreak. Given the fact that it was caused by yet another British visitor ignoring quarantine, referring to it as the ‘UK variant’ is starting to seem fair.

Looks like we really do want to trade with the whole world.

Seriously, though I’ve now gone beyond having any sympathy for these people based on a lack of government clarity.

Yeah, the Barbados one clearly had nothing to do with a lack of clarity either.

Nope, and they were all over Snowdonia this weekend. People honestly don’t care anymore

The latest figures show that 2,333,764 doses have now been administered in England. That includes those who have now received both doses so the number of people who have completed the vaccination is now 374,613.

I’m not sure how that second number compares. The websites I’ve seen don’t appear to have that yet, just showing the numbers of doses that have been administered (total and per capita) and those numbers are from different dates depending on how countries are reporting them.

England is apparently going to be giving daily updates from now on - here. Hopefully they’ll expand that to the UK in due course.

You’re right not to get it. It’s bullshit. They weren’t breaking any regulation or law. The police got it wrong and hopefully they’re going to be big enough to hold their hands up

But the mirror are complaining Boris was seen cycling 7 miles from Downing Street.

It’s good to see that our daily rate of vaccinations is going up. At our previous rate we weren’t going to meet 2m/week nor the 15m target by the middle of February but currently 210,000 doses are being administered daily with that apparently due to go up further as mass vaccination centres get up and running. It definitely needs to be upwards of 300,000 imo.

For comparison these are the daily rates around the EU as at 10 January unless otherwise stated:

Italy 74,395
Spain 48,786 (8 January)
Germany 47,903
France 25,000 (8 January)

The USA is at 419,933 (8 January)

Oh come on @Kopstar, you’re just being obtuse. Government guidance clearly states: “Stay local means remaining in the village, town, or part of the city where you live”.

It’s just that the boundaries of some villages, towns and cities are much, much bigger and elastic than others.

I would consider that travelling 5 miles from my home would mean that I was still remaining local. My ‘local’ Tescos is 4.3 miles away, for example.

They should just make it easily understood - stay within your postcode.

So stay in your house or appartement block and fuck you if you haven’t a garden or balcony!
Or do you mean just the first 3-4 ‘digits/letters’?
