The Corona Pandemic

I do exactly the same, also keep my distance and try to follow any arrows. I also regularly give shit to people who don’t follow the protocols or just squeeze themselves in to get to the shelves ahead of me whilst I’ve been holding back (socially distancing) from the person who was already there. Cunts.

I may have mentioned it before but I do love the look of shock when someone gets too close and they get told to fuck off.

I have a confession to make.

Since lockdown I have been going to the local skatepark with my kids after school finishes. Since leaving Australia, surfing has obviously been out of the question, so skateboarding has become the replacement for my 9yo son. When I took my kids there I would shoot some hoops on the basketball court right beside it.

In all honesty I probably should have researched a bit harder as skateparks are not explicitly stated in government guidance I thought they would fall under the category of playgrounds and were therefore still open (which IMO is retarded given that the possibilities of fomite transmission are massive). I eventually went onto skateboardGB and they had guidance that skateparks are all closed. Now this is a (rare) time where I am not really going to blame the government. Could skateparks have been stated in gov.uk guidance considering its a fairly significant type of play equipment? Sure. But I see this as more a failing of not just me, but the Local Authority. In Australia, playgrounds were all completely closed during lockdown. I worked for my Local Govenrment over there so I knew all play areas were taped off and signage applied everywhere. People could breach the cordoning off, but they couldnt claim to not know the guidance.

Even just a sign on the cage surrounding of the basketball court, or a staked sign near the skatepark stating that this equipment is off limits would have been helpful and would definitely have resulted in me cutting that activity out. My son is pretty distraught about the news that we arent going again, but he got a good number of days out of it when he shouldn’t have, and hopefully we haven’t brought anything back with us.

IMO not enough is being done at the local level, and its not a good look when this is the region that sparked the second wave.

Both of my local supermarkets are absolutely clear both in signs and staff response that you must wear a mask in the shop.

I don’t think the skatepark in my village has closed.

To be fair, it is a Coronavirus so it is sort of related to colds and flu.

However in the UK the flu annually kills 10,000 people. This has killed 80,000 and that’s with restrictions, testing, lockdowns (even if they have been botched). If the UK had adopted a do nothing’ approach I think we’d have half a million dead, easily.

I just don’t understand how people can’t appreciate that.

I know, and that’s what’s both heart breaking and infuriating about it. There’s zero explanation from them on the numbers but they play on some arbitrary figure that it only kills 0.2% of people that get it or something stupid like that.

It’s the Trump effect all over.

This is the guidance from SkateboardGB:

The Government has announced that all sports & all exercise venues, indoor & outdoor skateparks must close during the period of the lockdown in England.

It then goes on to say that skateboarding (outside skateparks) must be on your own or with one other. I haven’t found anything on gov.uk that clarifies if skateboardGB’s info is correct or not. Maybe LA’s don’t know?

As for basketball courts, no guidance there. But if tennis courts are closed, which have extremely minimal interaction, then basketball courts must be closed. Well after I left the courts last night there was a buildup of people. The court has lights left on so I am sure they play well into the night. Probably about 20 on the court at once. Two groups of teenagers/young adults playing half court basketball. :unamused:

Shocked, myself. We have had an indoor public mask requirement since June applicable to all retail.

Did not see the report on the Canadian news outlet, but it was reported on BBC. Some people like S&M I guess.

Look like @Arminius will have to go doo doo in the garden now but I would like to know if he’s been trained to use the door flap.

Strictly a backyard guy, apart from a sly run here and there into the neighbours’ yard.

This is madness. Tuscaloosa after last night’s college football title win.

Not good that.

I also saw a recent video of a US ski resort recently. Zero social distancing going on in the lift queue from what I saw. I had to check that it wasn’t from last season as I couldn’t really believe it at first glance.

As I said years ago. Pay benefits in vouchers which can only be spent with ID. Problem solved and kids are guaranteed a food, warmth, shelter etc. That’s the point of the social safety net. Then we wouldn’t need foodbanks and charity as the money from the government can only be spent on essentials. It really isn’t rocket science. Things never are. Except rocket science obviously.

Common sense?
