The Corona Pandemic

I’m not sure why you guys are making out that I’m saying it’s got nothing to do with how respective governments approached this issue when I’m specifically saying that’s the main factor. I’m simply saying that these other factors that I’ve mentioned are also relevant, which they are. You can’t just ignore them.

Quite, but I’m being told that this should be ignored!

No, not ignored but how about taking the decision of minimising the inward routes of transmission instead of just ignoring it?

It is that fundamental and population density, geography or anything else has very little influence on making that decision. It needed the decision to be made and it wasn’t. There still would have been lots of inward traffic, delivering food for example, you know the stuff that we apparently could do without back in 2016 but at least we wouldn’t have 20,000 or more people pouring through the airports unchecked.

And since how long are you back to normal?

You mean the very first thing I mentioned?

Then why bang on about it being such a difficult thing to do. Taking the decision to do that is not difficult at all.

Wtf? “Bang on about it being such a difficult thing to do”

It is a difficult thing to do but when and where have I banged on about it?

You know what, you guys just read what you want to read and not actually the words I’m writing.

Since 1st of June life has been normal here.

The exception was Auckland. In August there were several cases and they shut down the city. For 6 weeks they were in lockdown (just that region) 2 weeks at level 3. 4 weeks at level 2.

No. What we see from you is a barrage of excuses about doing X, Y and Z is difficult.

All I’m saying is that at its fundamental level it isn’t. I dont deny there are challenges but I maintain there are valid comparisons to be made with New Zealand, Australia and whoever you like purely based on the basic decisions made by the respective governments.

To me the evidence is clear. New Zealand has a proactive government. The UK a reactive one unless there’s a chance to fund a party donor. But you seem to want to focus on the detail. The detail comes after the first decision. If everyone had reacted in a similar manner ONLY THEN could you make a good comparison based on the metrics you state. Otherwise they are utterly useless because the foundations dont exist.

I hope that clears up my point of view on the matter.

Topic getting a bit heated lads over very little.

Don’t think your a million miles apart, just in interpretation of what you think the argument the other is portraying

My interpretation your talking past each other.

No, you don’t. You see me acknowledging all factors about various countries’ responses. Not simply ignoring the ones that might be inconvenient to my own prejudices.

If you look back through the conversation, my posts became about one of the specific factors because that was the focus of a couple of the replies to me. I’m hardly responsible for the specific factors that others choose to focus on and discuss, am I?

That’s just absurd. Significant tangible factors don’t simply become irrelevant for influencing outcomes just because initial first responses were different. In some cases those factors exponentially impact on the ensuing results.

Just make it easy and say @Noo_Noo is correct.

It would help if I’m not constantly misrepresented. Lots of claims about what I may or may not be saying but nothing to actually substantiating them. Which ought to be easy, it’s all written down.

Nobody reads your posts mate, we just look for the posts with boobs.

Nuance is often lost in debate, when reality is shades of grey. Its easy for people to believe the argument is in favour or against black or white.

It looks like to me your slate grey and Noo Noo is charcoal.

Not a purposeful misrepresentation by either side. Just a missunderstanding what each is trying to convey.

Reminds me of something I read in oz middle of last year

‘There are two main drivers in the spread of COVID19

  1. How dense the population is
  2. How dense the population is

yes I think you’re right. I will put my discretion down to pretty viscious carb craving this morning.

However, being from North Wales, the world centre of slate I am slate grey.

By the way, I see that the UK has implemented now very strong penalties of 10K pounds or 10 years jail for lying in terms of quarantine. Is this strong penalty new or previously already in place? I thought, if new, its late, but better than never. It sends the right message. And the next step importantly is execution. No exceptions, people who break this need to be made an example and then the message will be received rightly.
