The Corona Pandemic

My theory on the trots…quite a few people get a headache…so they take paracetamol as directed… Too many paracetamol’s seem to cause diahorrhrea…that’s my theory anyway!!! :poop:

For some of the smaller EU countries it was probably not feasible but it was a seemingly an option for some of the larger ones.

Spahn (German Health minister) said
The idea is not that we’re the first, but the idea is to have safe and effective vaccines in the pandemic and that we can create confidence, and nothing is more important than confidence with respect to vaccines,” he said.

Spahn said Germany wanted all European countries to be able to roll out the vaccine at the same time. “We have member states, including Germany, who could have issued such an emergency authorisation if we’d wanted to,” he said. “But we decided against this and what we opted for was a common European approach to move forward together.”

Peter Liese (MEP and health policy spokesman) said
“I consider this decision to be problematic and recommend that EU Member States do not repeat the process in the same way, A few weeks of thorough examination by the European Medicines Agency is better than a hasty emergency marketing authorisation of a vaccine.”

In response Phizer said “We have provided complete data packages, the unblinded data, to both regulators. I think what you’re seeing is just the difference in the underlying process and timelines, as opposed to any difference in data submission.”

“put at the mercy of these people” :eyes:
Presumably the EU will need to actually follow through on its earlier misstep and trigger Article 16.

As you people undoubtedly know, Scandinavian countries have put the Astra Zenica vaccination on hold due to very alarming finds in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, where health personnel, who were fit, (we are using the Astra Zenica vaccine to vaccinate younger people, chiefly health care personnel) have had blood clots. Here, 2 persons have so far died (and the alarming stuff is that these are young people, 30 and 50,both doctors or nurses) and two are so far in critical condition.
Norwegian scientists and doctors were very careful in the beginning to attribute it to the vaccine, it was only suspected, but we put it on hold anyway. But now Legemiddelsverket (our government body for regulating medicines), as well as their colleges in Sweden, say that they are now unfortunately quite sure of the correlation. I note that the Financial Times had a story of “don’t worry about blood clot”, but here in Norway that and the Times story is seen as rather arrogant and unhelpful.
This is very bad, because as you all know, we are already getting not enough vaccine, so with the Zenica freeze, this will take longer. This is especially bad because we are now struggling with a third wave after the mutated variants of the virus have taken over for the original strain.
2 other health care workers are in critical condition with blood clot after having had the vaccine administrated. In addition, very many have been reported as having skin bleeding as a bi-effect, though this is less severe than blood clot, but in any case it is being looked at. Jakter AstraZeneca-svar: Her er hypotesen de jobber etter – VG
Kollegaen døde med mistenkte bivirkninger: – Vi venter alle på et svar – VG
It is very awful that this comes in combination with this third wave, which seems a real struggle to suppress. Even in my, previously relatively plague free area where we do not have to wear masks and such, we are now getting reports of infections, and it is the mutated strain.

So right now the future is looking a bit grim and glum :frowning:

This pandemic sucks…

Ps. Please refrain from making this political or about various vaccines produced in various countries and owned by various countries, I don’t give a flying fuck about who owns Astra Zenica or any other vaccine and I find it irrelevant to focus on such matters. It is also Swedish owned, just to mention it, and they are also freezing vaccination. Just so that no one knee-jerks into protectionism mode (I hope).

EDIT: They are not sure about the correlation. They have backtracked a bit. But they have real concerns, it is a bit many who have the same bad bi-effects.

Also, if you guys have debated all of this before, so be it. I just skipped 400 posts and went to the bottom. Will not pretend I have read this sub forum the last week, because I haven’t and it takes too long now to read 400 posts, and I want to spend my time on something more fun than that.

All the best to you all !

How has the roll out gone in Norway, is it oldest and health care first, was AZ only earmarked for under 65?

Only younger age groups (below 65, or 60, one of those numbers, don’t remember on the fly), gets that vaccine here for now. That’s why there is a ruckus really. The ones that have had a suspected correlation (bi-effect) have been younger and not old.
Anyway, it is thankfully the only vaccine so far with suspected potentially lethal bi-effects. And everyone who has been vaccinated is being monitored for bi-effects.

This too will pass, just makes the vaccination process slow down, which sucks. In any case, if the program re-starts and I am offered it, I would take it personally. Cost-benefit tells me that would be wise. Only a few people are getting suspected allergic reactions statistically after all. But many enough to cause concern.

Edit: Red Seven. It is below 65 who gets it, not below 60. However, those who have fallen critically ill were unfortunately younger.

I know Pfizer have upped what they were planning on delivering, not sure if you’re in with the EU for vaccines but that may be for all who have contracts, so that’s a good thing.
Here in Ireland we suspended AZ after those reports from Norway regarding possible effects on younger people. I think that was the right thing to do. Hopefully it coincidence rather than cause as the quicker we get vaccinated the better.

All of these vaccines are very new, I too think it is the right thing to do, but I do fear it will cause more vaccine skepticism among otherwise reasonable people. So I worry many will decline if they get offered it, since we don’t forcefully vaccinate people here.
Really just want the epidemic to end. I want to go out, meet a couple of new people. Talk to some strangers, have a beer, feel like I am alive. Even in my area, with little infection (but now increasing), it’s not good for mental health. We don’t visit older people, for fear of infecting them and our social behaviour has changed. It is not sustainable forever. But of course, many have it worse…

I think most reasonable people who intended to get vaccinated will still do so.Once the AZ vaccine is cleared🤞for use again you may get some who request the other vaccines but not enough to have AZ vaccine wasted. We aren’t getting that much of that vaccine due to their production issues so whatever we do get from them will be used almost as soon as it comes in.

We’ve had very long and relatively strict lockdowns throughout this past year, particularly in Dublin, amongst the strictest in Europe. I look forward to the same things as you and everyone else. This is our 2nd St Patrick’s Day under lockdown and people are really feeling lockdown fatigue but we feel it’s not long before things will improve and while it might be another 2-3 months before real easing happens for us, we know this should be the last lockdown and before summers end we’ll be back singing, dancing and socialising.

I am going to bed now. I see you, @ISMF , busy writing. I imagine it is a response to something I wrote and you usually write very substantive. You are Down Under,so different time zone. I bid you all good night. If you respond to me, I will read it tomorrow instead.
Good night to you all and please do take care…

Thats my biggest fear. That misapplication of precautionary principle will ultimately lead to greater loss of life. (Because delays, skepticism etc).

The EMA are making an announcement tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if they follow the European nations or recommend that nations take a cost/benefit approach. I hope we see nations reverse their decisions.

I have seen two hypothesis about these cases.

The first Covid causes clotting it is well documented. Its speculated that these people may have become infected shortly before or after. A downside of a vaccine people tend to let their guard.

The other hypothesis, is that the statistics for what is normal in the population are based upon average over the year. Whereas Sinus vein thrombosis is associated with change of seasons. It is therefore not uncommon to see more of these by chance given time of year.

Haha yeah I was just typing on my phone while eating lunch. Night

Not substantive, just stopping to wipe food off my phone.

Although by the time the vaccine is offered to me, I will take it, it is right to say there are definitely uncertainties and certain level of fear and I guess that is just human when we are faced with something new and unknown. The only thing I tell myself is for this vaccine to even have enough data and time to verify its long term safety, it will take years and years. Would I wait that long and live out the inconveniences? I don’t think so and so far most of them who have taken the vaccines are fine so I will take it. Personally, I am not under any illusions that there will definitely be zero casualties with such a large scale vaccination exercise and with such a new vaccine but I salute everyone who has taken and will go ahead and take it. May God bless us all.

Not true. But it’s certainly the only one so far that’s been widely questioned.

Tbc, deaths following vaccination from all vaccines have been tiny and so far there has been no causal link to show that the vaccine has caused them.

We are hearing instances of people getting infected after being vaccinated. It could be a new strain or the person got exposed before the vaccine could kick-in. Anyways, my question is, do you have any instances of people getting infected after taking the vaccine?

Oh yes, many. Vaccination doesn’t 100% prevent infection, it simply makes your body better at resisting infection and fighting it off if you become infected. It also makes you less likely to transmit the virus onto someone else.
