The Corona Pandemic

As long as the bangladeshi govt and people learn from the mistakes made by the Indians , The result won’t or shouldn’t be as bad

I’ll look into that later. Liking to the extent of wanting to read up further

Also, Johnson & Johnson finally set to be approved this week. Novavax shouldn’t be far behind.

139.151 jabs yesterday.

I have an open mind either way - lab or natural occurence.

It could be called a coincidence that the epicentre is exactly where the Chinese scientists were researching Covid (Wuhan). On the flip side of that, if you are going to study Covid then there is probably no better place for source material than the caves around Wuhan. I can see both sides of that argument.

To call the theory that the virus escaped from a lab a “conspiracy theory” is a bit too dismissive for me, given that no conclusive proof has been presented that it is a naturally occurring virus. Even the WHO has stated that an escape of Covid from the Wuhan lab is a real possibility.

"However the theory that the virus might have come from a leak in a laboratory “requires further investigation, potential with additional missions involving specialist experts,” Dr Tedros said on Tuesday.“Let me say clearly that as far as WHO is concerned, all hypothesis remain on the table,” he added.

Tedros - DG of WHO - Published on the BBC website March 31st 2021.

China’s lack of cooperation with the WHO investigators early on certainly fanned the flames of the lab origin theory. The shady way in which the Americans were (partly) funding the research at Wuhan, which has been confirmed by the NIH, also raises questions. The recent (I feel dubious) leak that the Chinese military were considering weoponising the virus all adds momentum to the laboratory origin theory.

These are just some of the issues that need further investigation before the theory that the virus originated in a lab is completely disproved. My best guess is that it will never be proven one way or the other.

Can I understand what are the conditions for the fan entrance in the FA CUP yesterday? Any pre event testing meaning a swab test to show you are negative of Covid? Because I see almost no distancing and plenty of them without any mask. Is that officially allowed because of measures taken like testing etc or just simply the fans who do not care?

The issue is though it does cross over into a conspiracy theory.

For it to have occurred its means a conspiracy has occurred. Destruction of material, records, pressure applied to individuals. The article however goes much further. Implicating those on the WHO investigation saying they do wish to seek the truth. That it would be embarrassing for those in the US that funded the research. That the international community of virologists are dismissive because of self interest of wanting to perform dangerous work.

I don’t trust China, I could see them suppressing reality (as they and russia have a history). However when he starts implicating and questioning the integrity of WHO, international scientists, and US funding agencies it crosses a line. A natural virus escaping from a lab, I could belive that. But a genetically engineering one. From a technical perspective, it simply does not pass the smell test.

Why would a researcher waste years developing this virus ? Its would be incredibly difficult to do and much easier options avialable. Its like deciding to bake a cake and going, nahh I am not going to use that flour, I am going to grow my own wheat and make flour that way. So I can later bake a cake. Its a waste of time with little or no pay off. Just because you want to use a backbone virus that’s different to the coronavirus backbone everyone else is using.

You could do it, sure. But why would someone waste years of their life to make something not as good as what is already there.

This write up, it a good counter why it is extremely unlikely

Talk of scaling up the vaccination drive to 1 million per day in the UK (partly to include shortening period between second doses to 8-10 weeks).

Just read a blog saying Seychelles, Chile and UAE have administered more doses of vaccine than UK but are experiencing much higher numbers of infections. Apparently in Seychelles, a third of those infected have had two doses. All 3 countries apparently used the Sinopharm…

Has anyone seen any more data on the Chinese and Russian vaccines?

I presume you mean per capita? They’ve each proportionately got a larger fully vaccinated population than the UK. (63%, 40%, 39%, 30% - Seychelles, Chile, UAE, UK).

Ourworldindata only has information on Chile re type of vaccine and you’re right, it’s overwhelmingly Sinovac (~14m out of ~16.8m).

139.664 jabs in the Netherlands yesterday. Their goal was 962.000 for the week and they went over 986.000 for the first time since they started vaccinating. :+1:

The terraces can stay open from 6 am till 8 pm, was 12-6 pm from this Wednesday on and the gyms can open too. The numbers are getting better and better, the next stage is halfway through June when restaurants and pubs will be reopened but if the numbers keep going down as fast as they are doing now it could be sooner.

Finally there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
