The Corona Pandemic

Yeah, I was reading about that last night. The two really key things beyond the headline

  • 25 years of age
  • second infection only a month after the first one resolved :flushed:

Thing starting to bubble away nicely here as the reality of the fuck up starts to bite those that are in charge.

  • Second lockdown advised weeks ago but not instigated.

  • Chris Whitty distancing himself from the latest round of advice. Basically stating we will need more.

  • Welsh Government considering banning of travel to Wales, because of Englands lack of action on the matter.

It is actually somewhat remarkable that the UK has simply failed to learn one of the most straightforward lessons of the first stage of the pandemic - the countries that acted decisively and early ended up having the shortest and least disruptive localized epidemic periods, and the lowest economic costs.

But the UK closed the pubs a couple of hours earlier instead.

It is remarkable I agree.

Looking back and now what Whitty is saying it’s pretty clear to me that they have ignored any advice given by SAGE. Follow the science? My arse.

I see that Starmer’s also called for it now as well.

I think he may start distancing himself from his stance of supporting government restrictions etc.

I guess he already has done in stating that the current tranche are clearly not working.

He said it wasn’t inevitable. I disagree with that. I think it was.

That said, it sets up PMQ’s nicely for tomorrow don’t you think?

Good the battle has begun! :boom:

I think he means if the appropriate action was taken earlier, then it wasnt inevitable.

You’d have to back to February / March to find the point when yhis wasn’t inevitable I think.

That might be quite an extreme view but I think their failure started the moment they looked at their various strategiez gor dealing with it. Those plans were fundamentally broken before anything happened. Their only success is feeding the bank accoints of Tory party members / donors.

I guess you’ve heard of the latest PPE one?

Starmer has boxed Boris into a corner there. He’s going to absolutely twat him tomorrow.

Scary times here - hospital occupancy is moving aggressively toward normal capacity. Overflow capacity exists, albeit not able to sustain the same levels of care. Even that would be fully utilized about ten days from now on the current trajectory.

I feel Starmer is scoring too early in the game. The Tories have a very healthy majority. What if they replace Johnson with someone a bit more sane and competent?

The question is who though?

Yes, Boris has the media depicting him as a bumbling boffoon and an idiot, but when you look at the rest of the options, is there anyone that is actually a better option?

Looking at the gov.uk website for the cabinate members, I would assume they are listed in order of seniority and importance for the role, you have
Chancellor - Rishi Sunak
Foreign Office - Dominic Raab
Home Office - Priti Patel
Cabinet Office - Michael Gove
Justice - Robert Buckland
Defence - Ben Wallace
Health - Matt Hancock

That would be a fair assumption that they are the senior/key roles, others would not be considered to be important enough to be spoken about in a leadership battle, but would any of them be any better than BoJo?

As much as I can’t stand the guy, I would probably say he is the best of a fucking rotten bunch

He beat Jeremy Hunt in the leadership election (he’s not in the cabinet though). Others would be Alex Chalk, George Freeman…

Did Hunt keep his seat in the last election or did he get booted?

Would be pretty hard to have him take the leadership and be pm if he doesn’t have a spot in the HoP

He’s still an MP.

They’d turn to Rishi Sunak, although he might not appeal to a number of Conservative voters. For…you know…reasons.
