The responses…
Not gone down well.

Quite why the NSW Premier feels the need to attend the Tokyo Olympics. Fair enough that she would cop it.

Last week we had a new record of 1.290.879 jabs. All the number keep going down the more vaccinations are given the less positive tests, people in hospital, on the ICU, people who are dying but still there are idiots that claim that it is due to the better weather.

Well you guys in the UK, where the numbers are going down since January must have moved your island to the coast of Africa because it has nothing to do with vaccinations … :sunglasses:

Unfortunately the Delta (Indian) variant is now dominant in the UK. It’s more transmissible than the Alpha (British) variant and vaccines are less effective against it.

Cases have been rising consistently for a few weeks now, although deaths and hospital admissions (currently) remain fairly flat but we know that there’s normally a 3 week lag in rising cases translating to rising hospital admissions and, unfortunately, deaths.

The 21st June lockdown easing should probably be delayed for a few weeks to get more people with at least one jab and preferably two (one jab is showing as only having 33% efficacy against Delta whereas two pushes that up above 80%).

I mean, if this doesn’t encourage people to get the vaccine, nothing will :joy:

From Gravitas - Indian News outlet. This report raises a lot of questions but unfortunately provides very few answers. Some interesting information though.

Waiving the patents would be the best solution

I think it’s almost certain that the 21st June for opening up will be knocked back, probably by at least three weeks. At that point it’s getting to the stage whereas you may as well wait until the school summer holidays, which for my area is the 22nd July.

An extra month would allow for over 85% of adults to have had a first dose (currently 77%) and 80% to have had two (currently 53.6%), which is particularly important in combating the Delta variant. Crucially enough time will then have elapsed that 70% of all adults would then be fully protected (ie 14+ days after the second dose).

We need to pick up the pace of vaccinations again though which was over 4 million/week two weeks ago but has dropped to around 3.5 million this last week.

From tomorrow it will be opened up to over 25s in England, I think.

our province of 5mil people has daily case counts below 200 for the first time in 6months, and are at 70% vax rate in adults over 18 for first shot. things are looking up. outdoor sports has already begun with modified distancing rules and I’ll be going for my first run of footy in a few days since last Nov.

India has recorded nearly 6 thousand new deaths today (with that figure set to rise further as they update during the day). That is the highest reported new deaths on a single day since the pandemic began.

Horrific :frowning:

It was always going to hit and hit hard.

Jnr just been sent home from high-school again……

What’s high school?
Is that an american school thing?

You’re really going to have to do something about his behaviour :joy:

But seriously, that’s shit. Is it a case that’s sent them home or a wider policy?

I’m now think a third wave is pretty inevitable. It will be absolutely criminal for Johnson to stick to the 21 June.
