The State of TN have introduced a rule requiring that the limited amount of monoclonial antibody treatment they have available for the Tx of Covid will be prioritized for those who are unvaccinated. This is unconscionable.
J&J now reporting improved immune response and better clinical outcomes for those who received a second dose. Uncertain whether they’re considering this a modification of their dosing regimen or a booster strategy.
I’m surprised it’s taken them this long. It’s very similar to AZ, which was initially intended to be a single dose regimen as well until they appreciated that it would need to be two-dose in order to provide a more effective immune response. Pretty sure they came to that conclusion well over a year ago so quite why it’s taken J&J this long I have no idea.

there’s a link that was posted last week, a BBC report that’s 40min with virologists and epidmiologists from a few different sources (including UBC which is in Vancouver) who have been researching this topic. I listened to it, it makes sense and they have some pretty factually-based reasoning for dismissing the idea of engineered virus. I’d recommend listening to it.

Thought the forum would be interested in the Kiwi perspective for modelling.
We are ramping up vaccines and our modelling is informing us what our future looks like under different scenarios with Delta.
• If 70% over over 5 year olds are vaccinated, With current baseline public health measures. NZ government estimate 1.7M infections , 110,000 hospitalisations, and nearly 13,000 deaths.
• If 80% over over 5 year olds are vaccinated, With current baseline public health measures. NZ government estimate 1.1M infections , 60,000 hospitalisations, and nearly 7000 deaths.
• If 90% over over 5 year olds are vaccinated, With current baseline public health measures. NZ government estimate 171,000 infections , 6,000 hospitalisations, and nearly 600 deaths.
This is within a timescale of 1 year.
In short if NZ achieves over 90% vaccination, there will be no need for level 3 or level 4 lockdowns.
We are currently not vaccinating 5-11 year olds but I expect that to change shortly. Even talk today by the PM of vaccinating under 5 years. Without high vaccination rates our lockdowns will occur in future.
The concern here is Māori and Pasifika populations which currently have low vaccinatation rate, particularly among the young.

I can’t actually picture NZ moving to an open society without hitting the third target of 90% for over 5s given all the hard work and success so far in the pandemic. I can’t imagine even 6,000 deaths would be acceptable now.
As you say though, the vaccine uptake probably needs to increase dramatically in some of the minority groups to come close to hitting that target.
