The Corona Pandemic

The Netherlands are going into lockdown from tomorrow, until at least the 14th January.

Sorry just so I understand, are you saying that a positive PCR test means you are no longer contagious?

No. You will test positive at about the same time point after exposure on both a PCR and Antigen test, but the point at which you are no longer testing positive on the antigen test is the point where you are no longer contagious yet you’ll continue testing positive on PCR for many days afterwards still.

Basically, targeted and frequent at home antigen testing is the way to responsibly move forward while getting as close as we can to “back to normal”. Without this we either walk forward blindly, or we subject ourselves to needlessly blunt and obtrusive standardized quarantines based solely on exposures and long waits on PCR negatives (both due to the time course of turning a negative and the logistics of the getting the test and the results).

FWIW, Mina is well worth a follow on twitter.

Can you see the ‘dicks’ on their heads?

Yes although the numbers are going down they are afraid of the omikron spreding speed and we simply don’t know enough how sick people getting from it.

For once we are proactive and although nobody likes it the majority understands that it is necessary. Except for the 15% of idiots who refuse to get vaccinated because some … on YT told them so.

Got my booster this morning.

We’ve got them in the UK as well. Anti vaxers were demonstrating in London today, causing mayhem on Oxford Street.

You just know that one of these will be a super spreader event one day

I was just looking at sending some lateral flow tests to a relative in Florida, and it is really surprising how limited the Amazon selection is compared to what is available in Canada - significantly more expensive as well.

Here come the smartest guys in the room. Wait, they’re running from the room.

Hilarious! Sorry, I just can’t take advice from a guy dressed like this. Can’t I at least have a supermodel in a bikini? Work with me, please. I prefer “old school” marketing. :cowboy_hat_face:

Lockdown between Christmas and NYE I suspect.

Oh goody…….

Couldn’t be a decision with a more political reek to it. If it is necessary to lock down, it is necessary to do it now. Deferring it knowingly makes the situation worse. If Christmas is so important, have a 1-2 day gap in the lockdown at that point.

We’re talking about a government who let all the kids mingle last January for 1 day back at school. Moronic is being insulting to morons.

I agree with @SBYM, absolutely vent away. Thank you for the work you do, every day. I cannot begin to wrap my brain around the cumulative emotional and physical toll.

We are 2 years into this, and yet here we are. Again. I am fully vaccinated, recently had my booster and I’m legitimately nervous for what the next few months will look like.

I do believe we let our collective guards down as a society, particularly around the Thanksgiving holiday. All we heard from the media was how wonderful it was to finally be back. We heard air travel was back to pre-pandemic levels, families were reunited, we could again resume our lives.

When I‘ve got my booster jab my doctor said to me:
concerning covid there are only three possibilities, vaccinated, recovered or dead.

For me, that sums it up.
Make of that what you want.

Your doctor is correct. I feel like I’m beating my head against the wall. Anti-backers have told me they wo t get it bc it will kill them. If that’s the case then over 96 percent of me and my fellow providers will die here in the States. And 99 percent of the time it is the most uneducated making these arguments.

Went for a walk in jab. Got my booster and was in and out in about 40 minutes. Very efficient. Probably doing about three a minute where I went.

The UK did over 900,000 boosters yesterday and 985,000 in total. Hoping my arm was part of our first 1 million day.
