there’s not a virus alive that can survive a hot chili
I get it. Still, they’ve had quite a few deaths. 482K reported, and likely far higher. Interesting no omicron wave yet. They had a very small first wave and a more pronounced delta wave.
Indian authorities think it is just starting - positivity in Mumbai just jumped.
Or China. Check this article out. Guess they don’t trust that Sinovac shot. I love this quote from the article:
“To be honest, I don’t think Covid is scary. I think having no food to eat is my biggest threat."
I thought China had a very high vaccination rate already? Albeit its Sinovac and Sinopharm and whether the data is accepted as truth…but the official numbers coming out from them is like 85% of their total population vaccinated.
Yeah, it is just very unclear how effective the Chinese vaccines actually are, in terms of both infection prevention and reduction of severity. Relatively few countries have had a significant population of the various Chinese ones and the mRNA vaccines in parallel to compare, but the data from Chile regarding Delta suggests rather lower efficacy in general. However, yes, China does at least have high vaccination in some form compared to some smaller countries that have had a zero covid approach.
Booldy French and their 46 mutation variants
There is a gag to follow that but my ethical side has forced me to delete it and write this garbage instead.
Macron, speaking about roughly one third of his own people - and electors:
«J’ai très envie d’emmerder les non-vaccinés, donc on va continuer de le faire, jusqu’au bout. C’est ça, la stratégie»
“I really want to hassle the unvaccinated, and we will continue to do this - to the end. That’s the strategy.”
This guy is worse than Trump, Bolsonaro and Johnson taken together imho.
I think that the unvaccinated ought to be hassled.
Macron’s stance was reported on the radio in the car this morning as I took my kids back into school. The question raised on the radio was whether the unvaccinated ought to be harassed and I jokingly started to say that they ought to be shunned, mocked, beaten, and then set on fire.
My daughter said, “Daddy, you know you’re talking about Nana here?” (My M-I-L being unvaccinated) so I said, “Well, ok, maybe we should start with some light tickling…[imitates old lady voice] “no, I’m not getting the vaccine”…[reaches back to take daughter’s foot] “tickle, tickle, tickle…how about now?”…[old lady voice screeching] “ahhh, yessss, okay…I’ll get it…ahh, stop, stop, I’ll get it…”…”
Both my kids found that hysterical. Fully endorsed the tickling approach for the unvaccinated.
I don’t know much about Macron but whats your take on what he said here? I also the the unvaccinated need to have a bit of boot up the arse. Some may have valid reasons but the vast majority is conspiracy theory, ignorance and just sheer stupidity.
Well I disagree with that, because it initiates a very dangerous path. Once you engage in it as a president, and say that you’ll go all the way of hassling people who don’t agree with you on a specific subject, where do you stop then?
In a democracy, the state needs to convince people on such an issue, not to hassle them, especially as we now know that it has very little influence on their convictions. By the way, the precise traduction of emmerder isn’t really hassling (BBC’s take), it’s rather ‘messing with’ or ‘be a pain in the neck’.
It’s an extremely rude, vulgar and contemptuous way of expressing oneself, and totally unworthy of his position. Never has a French president used these terms in order to speak about a part of his own people. It’s horrifying.
As said above. We as simple citizens can say such things, but the role of being president of a country requires to chose one’s words very carefully.
Yes, I know, but this is the BBC and they know that children are listening. They made the point that the language he used was more vulgar than what they were relaying. The insinuation was that he was basically saying he was “going to fuck with” the unvaccinated.
In Singapore, there are not many who are not vaccinated but I always emphasized that while the unvaccinated need to be ‘inconvenienced’ in terms of policies like not being able to enter establishments like F&B for dining in etc, they should never be mocked because we will never know that some of these unvaccinated have some unfortunate reasons not to be. For the couple of unvaccinated friends I know personally, I always regurgitate to them the benefits and reasons for vaccination, does not affect our friendship and reinforce my respect for their individual choices but that they also have to live with the consequences of it. I am despaired when I see some friends gloating and mocking unvaccinated people, I think that is the other extreme we do not need. But by all means, I think the government need to make it difficult for them to get benefits like travelling, covid healthcare fees etc…
I honestly don’t know the answer to the unvaccinated.
If it wasn’t a public health issue it becomes a whole easier to leave them to their own devices. But their impact on health services, the spreading of the virus, and even deaths makes it an incredibly difficult issue to address.
I honestly don’t know the answer and I’ll add that it is difficult at times to avoid calling them out on their beliefs and incorrect understanding of things.
If there was a system allocating health care resources in proportion to the number of unvaccinated, respecting that personal choice - only 20% of hospital beds can go to unvaccinated because only 20% of the population is unvaccinated, and your personal choice left you without one. But that is not what is happening. It is perhaps different in the US where fully private healthcare operates, but just about anywhere else, it is a violation of the social contract.
My stance entirely
There’s always a simple answer. How about charging every unvaccinated person per per day for any required hospital treatment? That would do nicely IMHO.
Stick always works better than carrot.
Because even vaccinated people need hospitalisation sometimes.
The care sector has just done similar. No jab no job.
The issue is not actually them choosing not to be vaccinated but the utter bull crap many of them have followed. But that is an equally awkward path.
