The Corona Pandemic

Exact same situation with me. Missus tested pos on friday, I did yesterday. Sore throat today.

Just in time for me to miss a week of my worst shifts in work for about 4 months. A real shame.

I’m retired so it won’t affect me too much in what I can and can’t do.

@ILLOK , @Commando , get well soon!

I just recovered from it. The first few days are the worst. Sore throat, fever, loss of sense of taste and smell. Felt better after a week or so.

Have heard some anecdotes about long COVID but am not thinking too much into it at the moment

Same everywhere. Here, most of our restrictions are dropping as of today, including the mask mandates. Meanwhile, community transmission rates are about where they were in mid-December. The primary limit to the surge the models are predicting for April is simply the number of people who have already contracted Omicron since December 1.

I am still waiting for the government to update the vaccination page (last updated since 18-Feb-2022) so that I can book another booster shot for my father.

That’s still not clear that a 4th is needed. What limited data we have is pretty patchy. With that said, I’m sure there are subsets who would benefit from it. Moderna did apply last week for approval of a generalized 4th shot in the regimen of all adults, and that might start moving the conversation in that area. With that said, I’m not sure there is much downside to getting one though for someone concerned about their immunity (other than possibly a day of feeling like shit), and at least here in the US, the way the booster access has had oversight (little to none) I dont think it would be hard for someone to blag their way to a 4th shot.

“Vertical outbreaks in high-rise housing could be contributing significantly to ongoing outbreaks of omicron variant in Hong Kong”

“Discovery raises concerns about the emergence of drug resistance in COVID-19 patients, particularly those who are immunocompromised…
…the extent of resistance risk involving other antiviral agents remains unclear”

Drug resistance - comes as a surprise to absolutely no one who knows what they are talking about, and was (not with hindsight, but with clear understanding of how this sort of treatment drives evolution of new resistant strains) one of the primary arguments against the idea that these effective therapeutics justify dropping measures to control transmission.

My wife just tested positive. It looks like she’s going to have it rough with flu-like symptoms. Daughter also positive with runny nose.

There’s no way I’m escaping this. I’ll probably test tomorrow just because we have limited tests but I can already feel a slight headache and sore throat coming on.

This is all our first time on this ride.

not the first time a virus has become resistant to drugs, for sure.

You never know. I know quite a few families where one parent and child has got it, and the other parent and child has escaped.

My son got covid but none of the rest of us in the house got it, he stayed in his room for 5 days when the rest of us were in the house.

It’s a bit thick at work this last week with 15-20 off with it.

This includes my line manager and another senior manager. My line manager seems to have been hit hard with a heavy flu, I did not recognise his voice. The other, has only minor symptoms with a tickle in the throat and the odd cough.

A bit crazy how variable it can be. Worth noting that in my little circle I’ve seen more cases this last month than in the last 2 years.

I’ve taken three tests and they have all been negative. The warmer weather has helped because we have been able to leave all the windows open for better ventilation.

Schools here in Kent have been hit far worse in the last few weeks than at any point in the pandemic. So many kids off school right now with it.

The oddity is that all around the world, people are marveling that suddenly covid is everywhere, having dropped basically all restrictions over the past 8 weeks in the face of the most contagious version of the disease yet (Omicron BA.2) with the highest breakthrough rates. It is more or less what we should be expecting to happen.
