The Corona Pandemic

I know its not flu…but found all remedies helped…lemsips, cough medicine, and vick…and fresh air…try and keep to a bit of a routine…

I can only take paracetamol. Maybe aspirin but I’m not sure on that one. Anything with Ibuprofen is a big no.

Anyhow I tested negative last night. I’ll do another later tonight. I suspect I’ll be clear but the heady floaty feeling is still there and quite weird. It doesn’t feel like vertigo

That’s almost 2 years!

Persistent COVID-19 is rare and different from Long COVID.

“In Long COVID, it’s generally assumed the virus has been cleared from your body but the symptoms persist,” Snell said. “With persistent infection, it represents ongoing, active replication of the virus.”

Their study investigated which mutations arise—and whether variants evolve—in people with super long infections. It involved nine patients who tested positive for the virus for at least eight weeks. All had weakened immune systems from organ transplants, HIV, cancer or treatment for other illnesses.

Thinking I might be falling into that long Covid slot unfortunately. I’m still with a slight tickly cough, some fatigue at times but the big one is some feelings of having just got out of a car having been motion sick for the last hour. Another bout of that today. It really screws up my appetite for a short time too.

I’d call it frustrating more than debilitating in my case.

Well, got the bastard again.

Travelled to St Louis last weekend in what was the first weekend since the TSA mask mandate was removed and started feeling sick 2 nights ago. Just tested positive today on a test kit that took only about 3 minutes to turn (typically means loads of virus in the sample)

My first infection was really early on, so probably March or April 2 years ago. I got my booster as soon as I was able, which was in late November. So I think it’s probably the combination of the new variant, waning effect of booster (wrt infection) and the conditions of travel.

Sorry to hear that mate - hope you get better.

But on the positive side, at least it is only the 2nd time catching it. Imagine how these 2 feel

Out of curiousity, did you wear a mask? About to fly for the first time since March 2020 myself.

We flew YVR to Cancun in Nov 2021, wore masks the entire time. Didn’t get sick

this is just before Omicron though which is supposed to be a more transmissible variant.

Most of the time, but I was one of the vanishingly few who did and in retrospect that did make me more lax with it.

Good chance a large percentage of passengers got it - unless they had already had it. I will try to wear an N95, but overnight flight will make that challenging. I don’t think I have worn a mask for longer than 2 hours at a stretch this whole time.

I was listening to stats last week that showed the certainty is near 1 that at least 1 case of transmission occurs on a flight without masking and the current level of cases.

I would have thought the expected value was well above 1.

I wouldn’t bother with an N95, you won’t be able to breathe on the plane with that thing on. we wore disposable surgical and came out okay. Tried an N99 and it was even worse than a N95 for a 6hr flight.

Good luck with that. We went to Rome by train recently, and in Italy, FFP 2 masks are mandatory. Seven f°cking hours on a spin with that thing on was a tall order. And then the same back home again…

@Limiescouse, get well soon mate! :+1:

I’m in London today. First time on train and tube for nearly three years. Planning on wearing my FFP the whole journey.

So, half of people still wear them? I find this a quite high proportion to be fair, considering that they aren’t mandatory anymore. :astonished:

Here, you’ll find almost no-one wearing his mask in public transports anymore since all measures have been lifted. We are literally back to a pre-covid-19 atmosphere.* If you don’t look at the statistics, and don’t occasionally hear that the one or other friend / acquaintance has it, you’d think that the virus has vanished. Thankfully, we have a lower hospitalization rate now, and the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths are rapidly diminishing.

*The funny thing was when we came back from Rome to Switzerland. The train was full, everyone wearing his FFP2 mask, messages on TV screens reminding everyone that masks have to be kept on, regular audio messages etc. Then, we went into the tunnel between Domodossola and Brig, the frontier was passed. Suddenly, the screens showed something else, the messages stopped, and everyone took off his/her mask at the same time, smiling to each other. It was quite surreal.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in resting heart rate since recovering from covid?

Mine was always down at 60/61. It dropped to 57/58 immediately after covid and is now around 66, and it went up to 70 on saturday because of alcohol, it’s never been that high before

Measured by a fitbit.
