I am fairly certain it will take far longer than 4 weeks to limit it enough to allow even the most robust test and trace system to be able to succeed, given the level of community transmission in the UK at this point in time.
U.S. reported 1,616 deaths yesterday. Highest day since July 27.
Record cases too, Worldmeters has it 108k, JHU at 102k.
Restrictions here easing Saturday. I hope this time we don’t take it as an ‘all clear’
Maybe an indicator of how things could go in the UK
Mass testing begins today, here in Liverpool. 3,000 soldiers are assisting with this huge task and yet they can only accommodate them in Pontins, Ainsdale. It’s a dump, if they don’t catch the virus, they might catch some other nasty disease.
Everyone in the country is dead. Politician cites success at stabilizing the increase in new deaths.
Eastern Europe, like Poland is picking up steam in terms of infections with 27K today. In SEA, Indonesia and Philippines is still reporting consistently high numbers. And Malaysia has been picking up high numbers for a number of weeks now. So this is the reality. Singapore was doing high numbers a couple of months ago while these countries were doing well. Now we are reporting single digits for a while now and suddenly our neighbours are reporting hikes. The reality is economies will find it hard to be fully opened. I would suggest heavy penalties like in Singapore including possible prison time or permanent ban for foreigners for repeatedly ignoring covid measures, but would that sit well with the western world in contrast to over in Asia where such “autocratic” measures are easier to implement.
Maybe I’m missing something, but as much as I support the idea of mass testing, isn’t pulling so many people into one place risking creating a super spreader event?
The news here in Victoria has been positive of late as we go into our ninth straight day of double donuts.
Restrictions are being further lifted
There’s a real feeling of optimism.
Unfortunately my naive hope that Europe was seeing less deaths meant a better understanding of this virus, a better understanding of how to treat and restrict it and possibly even a mutation of the virus into something far less aggressive now just seems to be smashed with rising death rates.
You guys are doing so much heavy lifting now, stay positive and stay safe, thoughts and prayers are with you all… you can do this guys…
Yes, it’s a possibility, I suppose. Much the same as people continuing to attend mass demonstrations, such as the one in Liverpool yesterday and students demonstrating over a bloody fence. They could also be called super spreaders.
Corona general Nakstad is not sure if the mink virus has come to Norway
This is a very worrying development, if it spreads outside Denmark’s borders, no vaccine currently under development, as far as I know, will work as it should on this aggressive mutation:
I guess you have to assume that it has spread outside Denmark already. Probably to Germany, maybe Sweden at least since they have just road or bridge borders. But something will likely get out from air and ship travel as well. Rather depressing development.
Darwin awards…
I look forward to finding out more details - and what the more scientific literate people have to say on Pfizer’s progress.
