The Corona Pandemic

:flushed: :fearful: :cold_sweat: :scream:

… and put on spikes along the gateway of the London Bridge, while we are at it.

(my favourite historic period is 1300-1660 after all… :rage:)

Good grief. That is shockingly inept.

To be fair, the app worked.

Amusing on that side. Shame in some ways that it didn’t fail.

What I do find revealing is that you have the PM and other MP’s isolating or with the virus, and now Dildo Harding. You kind of get the impression that these people (I’d add Trump to the list) feel that they are above the virus.

I think we’re seeing that even with regular people. The WaPo had a story this morning about a couple in Cincinnati who had a full indoor wedding about a month ago of near 100 people, and have now seen as many of 40 of the guests test positive. Amazingly, much to the Bride’s surprise. The bride focused on the challenge of wearing masks when being in the moment…rather than on the total irresponsibility of organizing such a wedding in this environment.

The test and trace has been widely recognised as a failure, mostly in part due to incompetence of Dido Harding… When the heat is on… Is it any coincidence her husband began to self isolate on the 9th Nov… and Dido Harding herself starts her self isolation today, as per instructed by their app!
It is as though they are advertising the fact the test and trace does actually work…!!!

Are you suggesting it’s a stunt?

I wouldn’t put it beyond them.

I am suggesting that the redolent hubris constantly displayed by this Government to Jo Public… Belies a respect they should treat us with…
It inadvertently leaves me with a lack of trust in everything that comes out of their mouth…!

I’m right with you there.

Had to go to a test centre yesterday after my lad was struggling with a cough and a shortness of breath. Probably just his asthma, but you have to check these things.

There is something about a hastily prepared, temporary testing facility, repurposed from a familiar public space and covered in biohazard signs that scream Zombie Apocalypse.

Place was fucking deserted. Apparently they had 800 tests available yesterday. Judging by the time we were there, I’d be surprised if they used 100 of them.

At this point, we should not be limiting the tests to people with symptoms, by which point they’ve probably already infected loads of people. We are now far enough into this pandemic that if people want to do a test, they should be able to get one.

Hope your lad is fine and recover quickly. I guess it’s some winter illness rather than the dreaded C. My prayers are with you.

best of luck, Cross fingers.

I’ve always felt the disparity between the available capacity at testing centres opposed to the labs and actual available tests really odd to be honest. That said testing centre numbers should be driven by geography and not some mystical resource balance between the labs, tests and centres.

Vaccine update Klaxxon!

I think the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine works differently to the Moderna/Pfizer variants (which themselves are relatively similar i believe). This suggests we may have a range of options against the virus shortly.

Great. All we need now is a cure for human selfishness/stupidity and we’re sorted.

Yes, the Oxford/AZ vaccine is a more traditional approach to vaccines in which they a modify a virus to remove its capability to replicate, but maintain enough of its characteristics to produce an immune response. In this case they took a chimp cold virus, inactivated it, and then added genetic material that would make it grow a corona spike that the immune system could respond to.

The other two are using a new approach that has long been discussed but never successfully implemented. This is a pretty good read on it
