Actually it’s been a handful of virologists who have done the most damage here imho. Particularly one, Hendrik Streeck. I could sort of understand why the media would give him time at the beginning of the pandemic, can’t expect a normal journalist to be able to distinguish which virologist is right - and so much was unknown.
It became problematic imho when he kept being invited and interviewed, quoted and consulted by politicians etc when it should have been obvious that he had been continuously wrong about pretty much everything. He’s somewhat brilliant at spinning his previous statements/predictions afterwards though. Like a Science-Trump. And what kind of virologist uses a PR company (owned by former chief editor of BILD btw)…
Over the last month Spain has had 214 deaths per 100,000. The UK has had 599 deaths per 100,00 over the same period over the same period. What sort of spin can you find to repudiate that. I am sure you will find something. Maybe you should take off your blue tinted glasses sometimes.
Here in France it’s like football with the ‘expert’ infectologues, virologues etc. Paris Vs Marseille. Thankfully Raoult has been substituted (it’s now the head of the IHU Marseille that pumps his corner).
It’s balmy as the decent stuff they say corresponds but it has to be said in such a way as to refute what the other has said. The medical profession.
I’m not spinning anything. I’m correcting your distortions/falsehoods. Maybe you should avoid making false claims?
Do you have a link to your source? Per 100,000 what?
Surely not per 100,000 of the total population? Spain over the last month on that basis has had 15.61 deaths per 100,000. The UK has fared slightly worse during the same period with 18.80 deaths per 100,000 (according to worldometer).
Colder in the north, places more strain on the immune system.
she is right. I don’t know how Germans feel about her government but throughout the world, even the most well-meaning and competent government can do absolutely nothing if people do not stop challenging the government for the sake of it when all they are asking is for you to save yourself and people you care about. They have nothing to gain by asking you to stay at home for 2 weeks. So stop being an idiot and challenge the rules for the sake of it. You can go protest, march, do everything you want against the government once this pandemic is under control.
And I will say this, controversial it might seem, that the behaviour of some of these freedom fighters during this pandemic, make those who believe in total dictatorship think they have good reason to continue that way. When you cannot behave for the good of everyone else with the freedom and democracy you have.
If any of this is true, the contracts issue may be worse than first appeared.
This is the sort of stuff many suspect has been happening but we need details. We need it exposed, full sunlight, it’s the greatest disinfectant.
Give it time.
I mean if true it is just so stupid as eventually it would come to light.
Germany - full lockdown from Dec 16 till Jan 10 - only supermarkets, garages, take away, drug stores+delivery services, restaurants with out-of-house sales to stay open. No public gatherings, no silvester fireworks, xmas max 4 ppl apart from own household.
A strong response. I only wish we had such a determined leadership here. Instead of that, we have our usual federal chaos, with every region doing whatever it wants. In-between, you have the federal council in Berne, protecting the economic interests, while watching the numbers of new cases going up again.
And I just know that they will most probably send us into total national lockdown anyway, just after Christmas or new year (before, there is some business to do, y’know), because there’s no way that they’ll get any kind of grip on the situation before they do that. Our health system is on the brink of collapse, at least in some regions.
Oh well… I think Merkel did the right thing there. It was inevitable, and cowardly governments like ours will be forced into it eventually, albeit too late.
Merkel didn’t ‘order’ anything there, ultimately it’s all in federal (state level) hands. Which has been the problem for some time.
I thought that you’ll be in national lockdown mode from Wednesday on? Did I misunderstand something?
Its one thing to have laws and penalties, but if someone breaks it, will it be strictly enforced? Will the people accept its enforcement? I think so far that is the problem some governments are facing.
Well yes and no. De facto it’s kind of a national lockdown because all the 16 leaders (Ministers-President etc) of the different states/regions have agreed on that, although there may be slight differences in execution. They’ve used this instrument of federal conferences for quite some time in this pandemic, Merkel is more of a moderator in that format, because constitutionally pandemic measures are up the states. Unfortunately I have to say, as some of those state leaders have continuously proven themselves to be total idiots imho.
Does the Chancellor or the Bundestag not have emergency powers to impose rules nationally in the event of a crisis (already have them I mean rather than the ability to legislate for it to have them)?
We have just approved Pfizer’s vaccine in Singapore. The first batch will arrive this month. Vaccination is voluntary and free for all citizens and long term residents.
