Even now? Most of the coverage I have seen of the Swedish situation in recent weeks has been an internal acknowledgment that Tegnell got it wrong forcing them to change course. Without delving too deeply into it, it seemed like he had already been ousted from whatever position he had held.
He was attending private meetings with our government in September with other lockdown sceptics/herd immunity fans which probably resulted in us not locking down then…
Not really. There has been some criticisism and some voices, some dissent from some doctors and a few journalists talking mostly to the foreign press, but collectively, the majority of the press as well as experts, have been loyal to the script of “Fölkhelsomyndigheten”. But Föklhelsomyndigheten" themselves have changed its advice lately of course. Anders Tegnell is the State Epidemiologist of “Fölkohelsemyndigheten” and fronts its policy.
Yeah, he was, and is probably still, one of the worlds leading experts on epidemics. Got his name in Africa researching and combating Ebola. Him as his former boss Giescke, has a lot, lot of good will not only in Sweden. And in Sweden he has been for a very long time, immune to criticism.
I am very, very sorry for you guys. Your political leadership has failed you utterly and pandered to conspiracy theories on the epidemic.
That would be extremely positive. Pfizer and AstraZenica are both two dose regimens aren’t they? If protection can be given in just one dose that would be a significant development.
I think even during a best case scenario where the US federal government took the pandemic seriously, did it’s best at containing it, pushing back at conspiracy theories, it would have had a massive positive effect on State levels; but even in that Best Case Scenario our demography and social cohesion (we trust government and health care advice) is after all a tad more favorable to combat a deadly virus than the US in general. There is 0.000% doubt, or should be anyway, that the US is suffering from catastrophic numbers of Excess Deaths though.
Sadly, I don’t think anyone will pay for that. At least in Sweden, they followed science, albeit an alternative view on tackling it (still disastrous, but at least no one in Sweden seriously argues against the pandemic reality), the US just ignored the mere reality of the pandemic for a disastrously long time. And worse, devaluated the medical advice of doctors on a Federal level.
The US will pay for the Trump regime for a long time. Butcher’s Bill has barely started to be counted.
I believe the Americans use a name for that now in contemporary Pop Culture, and that is Karen.
It is actually trolling taken to artform, she is posting in an anti-vaxx group.
Lol, good to know !
Any idea how effective China’s Sinopharm vaccine has been?
Bastard got me.
I thought that was serious
It was being reported as being effective as was the Russian vaccine. I understand several countries in SE Asia will be using it such as the Philippines.
I can tell a story, actually, how the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affects the sports industry on a local level wiping some business. Specifically, we @Sportlane had a partner soccer academy GPS (Global Premier Soccer). They had franchise soccer schools in the USA (like almost in every state, more than 50 if I am not mistaken) and several international soccer academies for young soccer players. But with pandemics, they had to close all the schools, academies and filed for bankruptcy leaving significant losses and debts behind. It was really sad. I cannot imagine how many local football schools and operators had to shut down due to COVID lockdowns.
So sad to see how this Virus going.
Obviously I am particularly sad for the UK as my family are there. I just wish everyone a safe Christmas . Please take care of yourselves and wear masks no matter what they say. Masks are important.
( P.S. even Kopstar )
We probably got somewhat lucky, getting to nearly a year of it growing before we observed a relevant mutation. The possibility of an even more infectious version is daunting.
Unfortunately, there are plenty of knobheads around who refuse to wear masks. Everyday, I see people becoming more careless about this virus and it makes me so bloody angry.
