The Corona Pandemic

It always surprises me how offended people get when they are too close to me mask or no mask.
Maybe I should stop telling to fuckoff and back away from me?

Don’t stop telling them to back off, they need telling. I had to do it yesterday. They look at you as if you are some sort of alien, but I make sure they get the message.

Do you have any thoughts on the disparity in spread between west and China, surely this cannot be only about political freedoms?

I have read up on the Phizer/Biontech vaccine. It pumps the body full of the protein that the virus use to infect the body. However, this mutation is og that protein and not the virus itself. Can this, then, mean that the Phizer vaccine will be less effective towards this particular mutation ?
Maybe too early to tell?

I think that is the explanation for the first wave.

The lack of a second wave strongly suggests that the vaccine co-developed between Canada and China is actually effective, which makes their reneging on the deal fall into the class of crime against humanity to my mind.

How did the Chinese renege on the deal and what reasons if any did they give?

Canada’s NRCan supplied candidate cell lines to CanSino to develop a vaccine. The candidate vaccine was to be sent back to Canada for Phase 1 trials in May. Trials were done in China instead, and it was approved for use by the armed forces in June. Neither the vaccine nor formula has ever been supplied, despite now widespread use in China.

Their reason was national security.

It should be noted that vaccines made by NRC are generally licensed to developing countries for production at minimal cost.

Even during a pandemic some countries fail to understand the concept of For The Greater Good.

It is particularly galling as a Canadian, but globally the implication that there has been an effective vaccine in production since June is horrific.

Could they be worried that when other countries analyse the vaccine it will show that it has been copied from another variant they would not legally have had access to?

Unlikely, given the foundation is the NRCan license. They are offering it globally now. It also would have been the first by a wide margin, hard to be a copy in that situation.

Silly man.
As long as he’s 2 metres away from others and in the cab on his own he’ll be fine.
That queue will take longer than 10 days to get to France.

Somewhat galling that the Canadians had an expectation of a ‘deal’ with the Chinese.

Good chance to eat those ham and cheese sandwiches before he reaches border control.

Yes, the Government’s subsequent defence is more or less a version of the parable of the frog and the scorpion lacking in any self-awareness whatsoever

UK now has London and parts of the SE in Tier 4. Another Boris U-turn. The UK R number is now above 1 and this is being attributed to the new strain.

I think I’d give Boris a roundabout if he were on my gift list.

Also the Christmas relaxed rules have been amended - the five days of mixing over Christmas has become one day, on Christmas Day itself.

I don’t know if Boris thinks the virus is taking a day off or something?

His utter reluctance to listen to people that actually know what they’re talking about is astounding. Those back benchers have him in their back pockets.

It is utterly ridiculous that a PM listens to a rowdy bunch of back benchers over scientists in the middle of a pandemic. Makes you wonder on what other things he’s taken their “advice”
