I don’t get it? Given Barnestormer was talking about why there is no or very little spread from the West to China, are you suggesting they’ve secretly vaccinated 1.3 billion people without a whiff from the Western media? Even if it’s only a proportion of the population that’s still pretty improbable. We aren’t talking about North Korea here. There may be a working vaccine and it may be given to some of the population, but I can’t picture how this could happen on a large enough scale to be protecting the country and for it not to be well known.
Surely it’s all about China’s border control which is the tightest in the world and robust test and tracing, the same reason countries like NZ are able to eliminate it?

Yep. We’re in a bit of a mess but at least the government has been upfront about it.
I’m personally at the stage now where i’ve been doing my own thing which is pretty much tier 4 anyway. It’ll stay that way for some yet. I’m ok with it. I have everthing I need apart from the car failing its MOT the other day.
Johnson’s spent his entire life just blindly assuming things will work out regardless. Because for him, they generally do. There’s always been someone to pick up/clean up after him, he’s always been over indulged, excuses made for him, second third fourth chances.
I don’t think he appreciates that for most of us and for society generally, it doesn’t work like that.

I don’t particularly care about the tiers from any Government.
Since March I have staying away from public places and people wherever possible.
I’ve read many pandemic novels so I should be okay when the population cull is over

I have also taken note of which of my neighbours seem to be stockpiling and if they are mask compliant.
That’s the correct way to do it, it’s quite simple, stay away from people, you don’t get infected.

I think it is all of those things working together. The lack of coverage is surprising, but the simple fact that they have shipped millions of doses beginning in June is not in dispute. Safety is not known, there is no public data on effectiveness, but the evidence is pointing toward it being effective. WHo the hell knows about safety?
In implementing all of those strict controls, being able to have what may be an immune workforce is a massive boost, as is the ability to arm test and trace efforts with a vaccine. You don’t need to vaccinate 1.3 billion people if you have effective testing and tracing, and strict travel controls - the vaccine becomes a targeted tool.
There is no way the vaccine alone has been responsible for China’s success since the Wuhan outbreak, but it is very likely to have been a contributing factor - even NZ has had some significant slips along the way.

The only thing I’ll say is that is very difficult to do if you have school aged children. Like BSB I’ve kept out of public as much as possible, but it’s impossible to know if I’ve been infected as my children could very easily have brought it home. Especially for me where schools have been hammered in our area.

True but I also put the blame at the feet of the government. They were stupid enough not to realise that when you lock down one area people are tempted to move into another with less restrictions. They are selfish twats but at the same time the government gave them the opportunity to show that they were twats.
On this occasion i don’t think for the most part is people looking to move to areas with fewer restrictions, but moving to spend Christmas with family as per arrangements they made a week or so ago.
