Happy to see the back of Labuschagne, he seems like an unpleasant character, but sorry about Cummins, who’s clearly a good guy.
Anyway, couldn’t have gone much better for India.
Still a couple of good players to come for the Aussies, but there’s surely no way back for them.
All that time wasting before facing those deliveries.
It’s called karma
It’s a mauling out there
And no rain in sight….
Might have to check the record book re the largest test losses by us in Australia.
Halfway through day 1 and India were copping it. Who would have seen this turnaround.
Bumrah unplayable.
Australian fast bowlers are good, great in fact (atleast two of them) , not to mention Lyon who’s a very good spinner.
But Bumrah is probably the greatest bowler from 2018 and onwards.
This is not about the three wickets that Australia lost in double quick time when chasing 520 odd. Any team which has been in a leather hunt over a period of 2 days would have crumbled.
It’s about the dismantling of the Aussies in their first innings. He was unplayable.
There are plenty of those stories in Indian cricket. True there are people who come from relative privilege and do well. But for every of those , there exist people like Jaiswal etc who have come up true sheer grit and their talent. People in India love to see Jaiswal come up because it’s not everytime that someone beats the system.
The likes of Rohit , Bumrah aren’t from rich families as well. Bumrah was raised by a single mother who was a govt teacher then (the salaries not that high).
Same for Rohit who had to go live with his grandparents because their parents couldnt afford to educate him.
Dravid , tendulkar , Ganguly , laxman , kumble all came from privileged backgrounds.
So fair to say that the sport among indians now has spread to the lower middle class sectors as well
It’s excellent fun listening to the Aussie commentators bemoaning their team’s performance.
Terrible reviewing by India.
India look to have used a heavy roller.
If anything, the pitch will begin to crumble after the first session.
Another wicket here would be fine.
With Ashwin or Jadeja this match would be over by now.
Congratulations India.
Looks like a great series ahead.
This is what happens when you fuck around with a tried and tested formula.
We need to go back to opening test being held at The Gabba.
Apparently they wanted to put the indian bowlers on some leatherhunt putting some miles in their legs.
And the aussie cricketers seem to be too nice nowadays. Characters like Marnus not withstanding.
India can strengthen before the next test. You’d expect Sharma, Gill and possibly Jadeja and Shami to come in.
I really don’t see how Sundar is a better option than Jadeja and I’m a big fan of Shami. He seems very underrated to me. Rana probably did enough to keep his place though.
As for the Aussies, they need an opener and maybe a replacement for Labuschagne, who was all over the place. Not much else they can, or should, change.
The opinion seems to be that Sundar is a better batsman than Jadeja especially against the quicker bowlers in bouncier conditions.
Don’t think Rana would keep his space unless they go in with 4 quicks. Bumrah , Shami & Siraj would be the three quicks.
I’d make Head open. He’s an opener in the shorter formats. No reason why he can’t do a warner.
Head / Khawaja to open. McSweeney somewhere in the middle order. Drop Labuschagne if there’s someone better in the domestic scene. He’s woefully out of form and it won’t do to keep searching for form in the test matches.
producer John Donohoe posted: “We waited 6 months for Test cricket and we get this… I’ve been telling people for ages, this Aussie team isn’t as good as people think.
“Captain Pat is picking his mates, without consequence. Something’s gotta give. This has been the worst Test performance from Australia.
“There is a massive depth issue. I do feel that Pat runs the show, and is hesitant to leave any of his best buddies out.
“Yes, they are the best bowlers in the country, but they are so pig headed in changing things, it does my head in.”
Nine commentator Mat Thompson commented: “The most underprepared Australian team I can remember. The disregard for red ball lead up cricket is ignorant and arrogant and it’s showing to be so.”
The Daily Telegraph’s Dean Ritchie commented: “Cannot ever recall Australia being so savagely manhandled in a home cricket Test.”
And that is just the tip of the iceberg as Aussie cricket fans come to terms with the absolute drubbing
I know Starc is great and almost certainly would boost his stats with the day night test but it’s high time that Australia look beyond him.
