The Cricket Thread

So there we are then.
The Aussies are bloody good at cricket.
And England… rather less so…

@Sithbare is this kid really that age?

What he’s been doing is phenomenal for anyone playing u-19, let’s not get bogged down on how good he is. Doing it at 13 and 14 years old…

Archer out for the series apparently. They may just as well cancel the last two matches.
Where will England’s batting be without him?

PS They’re all drunkards too.

yeah. side strain. thank goodness it’s not the bowling elbow

I had the same conversation with Cynical a while back and my opinion is that he’s probably around 16-17 years. Age Fudging isn’t quite as easy now as it was back then in India though. But to be doing it at 16-17 years is still massive.

Ah… but can he grind out an innings? You know, bat all day for an unbeaten 80 to save the match?

Do think he should be given his time. If he’s even 16-17, It means that his body still has growing to do. Can’t risk him becoming overplayed like Sachin. Sachin pre his tennis elbow was a different player to the more accumulator he became later. And his tennis elbow injury (due to his overly heavy bat in part had a huge role in that). Maybe better bats which are lighter now can avoid others from getting those injuries. But he still needs to have his game time regulated.

Wouldn’t trust the BCCI not to misuse him. Also hugely impressive feat but there is a world of difference between that and producing runs consistently at Test level overseas and against the likes of Australia. Lots of players have smashed records at junior levels (and beyond) and gone on to be strong (but obviously not Bradmanesque) batsmen, while those who haven’t look quite so prolific on paper but clearly have the shots and mindset go on to eclipse them. Either way we’ll know how good a player he likely is/can become - but not until about 5 years time.

Finally got around to listening to Rob Key on Hussein and Atherton’s podcast. As predicted spoke a lot of shite and basically put all the fault on the players. Absolute helmet who burgled his way into getting that job.

English weather in Melbourne.

Fuck it’s so wrong that I want Green to fail her just so there’s more pressure on the selectors as he’s been particularly dreadful. Absolutely not deserving of his spot. Living on his promise rather than what he’s delivering.

He’s also not trustworthy of delivering a rescue mission which is what we need. Slug has played like 10 innings and he’s delivered more runs in a batting crisis than Green.

England get another 6/91. Green is going to need to show his mettle here.

Basically the entire interview:

Key: We didn’t expect that our batters used to playing on English roads would struggle to perform in different conditions in Australia.

Also Key: We didn’t expect 3 perma-crocked bowlers coming in cold wouldn’t be able to perform in different (and difficult) conditions.

Also Key: We didn’t expect that 5 Aussie bowlers in the world’s top 10 would perform on home soil.

I would be so angry with these comments. Genuinely more angry than if he hadn’t done the interview at all. Every English fan knew those 3 things would be something the English cricket team would need a counter for, and those comments suggest England didn’t even attempt to counter them as they didn’t expect they’d face them. So either Key is lying to you all or he’s far more clueless than the average fan. It’s a toss up as to which one.

Key is full of shit and his interview was embarrassing.
However, to describe English pitches as ‘roads’ is ridiculous.

Who’s Slug?

They’ve been setting up the English pitches to be very better friendly since Bazball became a thing:

Times of India accusing England of producing ‘roads’.

Lovely stuff

Fun ‘fact’. I grew up playing on a road because we didn’t have any facilities. Was a wide area to the off side so we all hit there because there were houses on the leg side. Didn’t change ends because then you’d have to be bowling downhill and with a dodgy keeper we’d spend more time running after the ball than playing. 44 now and slow and fat but can still play a square cuts, uppercuts, square drives, cover drives inside out over cover, straight drives or any offside shot like a pro and still can’t, and never was able to pull for shit.

England revert to type.

Type being abysmal.
