I am following France24, Le Monde and L’humanité too.
From what the kids are saying, their demands are reasonable. It is astonishing, the private schools are getting more funding than state schools.

@Maria the retired are in the streets of France as well now!
They haven’t been bashed by the police yet, they have a vote
, but it will come with this government.
It’s going to be amusing seeing students and retired hand in hand
.
Aww, that is so cute. My mum would have been in Paris now in her wheelchair if she was here now
. She was a teacher, she loved her students especially the naughty/ special needs ones.
I saw students on the motor wheelchair with an elderly gentleman speeding down the street ![]()
You have to hand it to the French, they know how to mix humour in between the seriousness of the situation. If demonstrations were an Olympic sport, French would win gold hands down.
I saw one video, where one protester, he must have been a hairdresser, giving a haircut to the student in the street ![]()
This is an iconic pictures of the french resistance! They know who to add humour to their grievances.
Apocalyptic images from France yesterday. All this anger and rage, is it really justifiable to such an extreme degree? There’s looting, vandalizing and extreme violence that’s on unprecedented scale.
I’ve heard the usual rumours and innuendos about the Far-Left being the driving force behind the violence, but at this point this is starting to feel like something more sinister and insidious is at play. Could it be that Putin’s attempts to destabilize Europe are coming to fruition?
Of course not
If this came from the right the reaction would be entirely different . “violent thugs”
Is it just the human condition? Everyone wants something for nothing and as the economic “miracle” fades, any release from the slow downward spiral is welcome.
Everyone but Europe benefits from this.
Well not unprecedented to be fair. The riots in 1968 were very violent as well. I think that there is genuine anger amongst the young ones, because they are confronted with a government which doesn’t listen to them.
Are they manipulated or teleguided? I don’t know, but the anger is genuine I think, just as with the Gilets Jaunes a few years ago, and the reasons for that are justified. The way Macron and co. have been underinvesting in education is a shame imo. And not only them, but others in the past as well.
Of course, this social movement is also used by all kinds of bad boys who are just there to loot and destroy. It’s them who mainly spread violence in the first place. Are these ones manipulated and teleguided? Possibly.
I wasn’t around then but I don’t think that the 68 riots were as bad in Europe at least. They were perhaps more widespread, but they lacked this level of animosity. Nowadays, there seems to be an undercurrent of rage and resentment that is beyond anything I can recall.
By the way, I am not suggesting in any way that there aren’t some very legitimate reasons for the protests.
Not sure what the government can do. The ones rioting now are already lost in that the system that was trying to mould them has produced a product that is inadequate for the landscape now. There is no easy solution.
I
agree. In between the chaos and carnage, protestors were removing barricades to let the ambulances and fire brigrades through.
The french are very humourous, they said that, the PE teachers would be so proud of their students. They are certainly got the police on their toes.

From what I hear, things are pretty dire in France. Hope my TAN mates living there are OK.
It’s fine here. There’s something to talk about. ![]()
Just for information, having ties with Marseille, my son’s ex wife was on the anti racist marche Saturday whilst my son looked after their kid and watched Brentford Vs Liverpool.
She had a wonderful day and just got her face painted in good old Provençale tradition.
It’s a bit of a shame the organisers refused the Unions offered help. This would surely helped keep better order. Though wouldn’t have prevented all of it.
There’s nothing to be alarmed about!
I didn’t follow the information over the weekend, had better things to do.
The useless Minister of the Interior who started the violence rightly put in his resignation. Macron the absolute idiot, dispute having reprimanded his Minister last week, refused.
Of course in handing in his resignation Nunez knew it would be refused. This is just politicking. Real shameful stuff!
People still pretending this is about schooling?
Well if your putting everything into the same basket and saying it’s all to do with the first action then surely it’s all about Pompiers as they were the first big movement to start protesting.
Do you understand what’s going on?
