Incredible if insane film

It’s an excellent film. Also, Demi Moore’s best performance that I’ve seen (and Dennis Quaid absolutely nails it as the sleezebag boss).

This is probably the best use of time anyone can have when it comes to films - in my opinion at least. And one you’ll likely be coming back to!

Even if only to try to figure out what the fuck you just watched

When I hear/ see Mulholland Drive mentioned I confuse it with Arlington Road. I don’t think I have seen Mulholland Drive which maybe why I make that error.

This week I’ve re-watched Enola Holmes 1 & 2 on Netflix. Am really looking forward to watching the 3rd one which is due out sometime this year

I would be reluctant to come up with my personal top list of films, mainly because recency bias would make me forget a lot of them but the only constant presence in any list of mine would be Mulholland Drive - quite probably at no. 1 because I don’t think I’ve seen a better film. It was the reason why I also watched Sunset Boulevard (which is also a bloody masterpiece and its spiritual ancestor).

Oh, trust me, if you had seen Mulholland Drive, you would have remembered it.

(That said, Arlington Road is a pretty good film!)

Shawshank redemption always springs to mind no matter what recent films I have watched and thoroughly enjoyed. Over 30 years old now.

This caught my eye, but then watching the trailer I’m asking myself what is it about this film and accents

I’m struggling to get past Clan McClud

Under the Skin - wow. A masterpiece. The scenes in Sco Jo’s house are absurdly creative and disturbing

Best film I’ve watched in ages (sorry @Nikola).

It’s a fantastic film, no question about it, though I did fail to connect with it on an emotional level, I admit.

Absolutely! First Reformed is where he fully convinced me that I was watching one of the best actors of our time - though the list of his great roles is quite lengthy.

Also for the range when it comes to male actors… Javier Bardem, Joaquin Phoenix and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Also Ruffalo and Michael Keaton.

I’m not a Ruffalo fan. He’s in some decent things but I always feel like I endure him being in whatever it is.

Disney have scrapped plans for a “live action” remake of Robin Hood:

I loved the original film when it came out (1974-ish?) If you haven’t seen it, it’s an animated film in which all the characters are anthropomorphic animals of some description; so Robin and Marion are foxes, the Sheriff of Nottingham is a wolf, Prince John a lion etc.

Now if they had done a remake with real foxes, I would have been impressed. However, it would have just been a mockery of the original with CGI. Sometimes things are best left alone.

So Platoon was on the telly box last night and I ended up watching it. It is a favourite of mine, but it is a brutal film. It is so well matched with the music score.

There was an interview with Oliver Stone afterwards which I watched a bit of. What I didn’t know was some of the scenes of the film were actual recreations of his own Vietnam experience. The village scene for example. Utterly horrible that bit.

Small conspiracy. Did the Beeb put it on because of Iran or just coincidence?

Probably just coincidence. If anything, they tend to pull films if they think it is too close to current affairs.
