The Film Thread

The THRAWN trilogy would have been epic. I love the books. I’m hoping to see more THRAWN in the series on Disney plus

Watched The Harder They Fall on netflix. Didn’t have super high expectations but it managed to clear that low bar and i enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Kind of a blaxploitation spaghetti western with Tarantino-esque shading. Great cast as well.

Watched 3.5 films lately.

  1. Dont Look Up. Someone told me it was good and I had no idea before watching. Slightly better than rubbish.

  2. Bond. Always loved Bond and this was goodish. Good riddance Craig worst Bond ever.

  3. Oasis Knebworth. Pure gold. Love em or hate em the Gallaghers are rock stars. That first album is unbeatable.

  4. Beatles Get Back. Lovin it so far.

14 Peaks, felt lazy even watching it. Incredible feat, incredible story. I have a hard enough time steelhead fishing this time of year, nevermind climbing a mountain in those conditions. Much respect.

Don’t Look Up - gave the missus and I a few chuckles. Really takes the piss out of society today.

Usually not into musical / musical movies. Watched ‚In the Heights’ the other night. Lack of plot / story but I enjoyed the music and dance parts.

The scene after that couple get back together on the morning show and the kid’s phone automatically downloads the guy’s new song had me crying laughing.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism of the film, from lots of different corners. Often that means it is just shit, but in a film like this that takes jabs at so many people it seems to indicate it hit a lot of sore spots for a lot of people mocked in the film.

I agree I thought it was f’ing hilarious in the same light as Team America: World Police. just cannot take it seriously.

Di Caprio was so OTT it was kinda fun to watch. they must have had a riot making that one.

Yet there has apparently been a big of a MAGA backlash to the suggestion that Streep was an allusion to Trump and then, obviously, Jonah Hill Don Jr. They are claiming there is nothing in the film to suggest that, which I think is possibly the saddest part about the whole thing - real life is always dumber than even film makers, who make films mocking how dumb humans, are can depict.

I think a lot of people missed the point of Don’t look Up…I saw a few criticisms of Di Caprio, comparing his performance with The Revenant etc. If thats the standard critique I guess the movie went over their heads.

There were a couple of scenes that did that for me. The follow up to the first crackers and water scene had me in tears, as I wasn’t expecting that.

How could you not watch it and make that link though. I think that’s why the complete irony of the whole film is lost because it’s so close to reality people are too stupid to realise.

Or are they scared to admit it? Reminds me of the denial or protectionism that has become so prevalent these days as the extremes become more and mainstream.

Finally got around to Eternals. Had wanted to watch it ar the cinema, but it was a busy few weeks and only managed to fit in Dune.

But anyway, I had heard a lot of mixed reviews and was perhaps expecting to be a little disappointed, but it was as good as most of the MCU. Perhaps not up there with the very best, but there was very little I did not like.

Favourite character was Karun. I also enjoyed how beautiful the movie was to look at.

Also just watched Pig after seeing a few recommendations on twitter.

One of those surprising ones where the synopsis sounds like a movie I would never have any interest in, but the execution somehow makes it all work.

The Hobbit films are okay but they’re just jam packed with filler. I can barely remember anything about them, so much so I question whether I’ve actually seen them.

Those films could have lost 3-4 hours and been so much better.

Super movie. Great fun with some kick ass action fight scenes. Bob Odenkirk is brilliant as always and Christophe Lloyd has a wonderful role.
