Totally agree on all these points. Thats why i want to rewatch. I have a habit of disliking something on a first viewing but enjoying it more the second time. At the time i watched it i really didnt like watching George Clooney, which may have coloured my view on the film. My view on clooney has changed over the years so my view on the film may too. Also I’m a huge john Goodman fan…
I watched Gatsby a few days after I read the amazing book. “It’s not filmable” had always been the consensus, but I thought they made a great job of it!
I think their films are so difficult to define, and often wildly different from each other, that you can often be affected by your expectations of what it was not being met making it difficult to appreciate whether it was good. They veer from serious to absurd in ways that are difficult to track and so unless you can into one of their films with a completely blank slate of expectations they can be a strange experience.
Tried this one last night. Quite a cast in it to be fair. I did enjoy Oh Brother more though but that was likely down to my mood. I wasn’t quite ready for the Big Lebowski, it wasn’t quite silly enough to suck me in I think.
From personal experience, the only people I know who like it have only ever seen it when massively drunk and/or stoned and have fallen asleep half way through. I’m sure if you sit them down with it while sober, they would probably wonder what all the fuss is about.
See also Cheech and Chong’s Next movie ( but don’t actually see it)
Interceptor on Netflix is a good film, but not 1 to take overly seriously.
Not sure if Reilly wrote it as a comedic tribute to 80’s action films or if it was ment to be serious but just comes out with cheesy fun, but as long as you don’t start it ecpecting any level of serious writing/action
