Black Adam - The film industry is just utterly broken. If this is all that supposed professionals can do with $200m then we should just give up on film altogether.
On the one hand we have a guy with the literal power of the gods. On the other we have a superhero with the power of, uh, what exactly?, who has been matching him in combat for the best part of an hour. A mortal woman has an artifact they want, but when they go to take it she talks sternly to them and they decide to let her keep it.
Not all but certainly a lot of films with the most production/marketing costs etc tend to fall short as they spend less time on what’s important like putting together a compelling story that actually makes sense and not so much easy to follow but is understandable or portrays some kind of realism and more on what would attract a younger audience to buy a cinema ticket. Directors don’t care if they put out dross so long as it’s a commercial success for them. Actors don’t care if they follow a dross script so long as they receive a cheque of 5…10million in their hands come the end of it.
This is why I tend to gravitate more towards films that fly under the radar and don’t have the marketing behind it.
For those who didnt immediately pick up on it, it’s the reunion of the team that made In Bruges - same writer and director and 2 leads whose relationship drives the film.
I think it may be because he isnt the “star” in his films? but like actors such as Joe Pantalioni, he is the sort of name i will usually go out of my way to watch - which reminds me i’ve been meaning to see his recent movie on Disney+ (see how they run?)
I thought I’d absolutely hate him as a person after seeing him in The Green Mile… This is how I rolled back then… He’s an amazing actor, Seven Psychopaths is probably my favourite role of his.
