The Football Manager thread

This is where having your scouting set up correctly and understanding youth regen comes into play. Brazil and Argentina are the go to for lots of people for youth targets as they produce so many, but they are also expensive compared to other parts which can be just as fruitful.

Scandinavia and South Europe are brilliantly untapped for top youth prospects that are still really cheap. My tip (if your in England), is to have scouts focus on players under 18 with 4.5 star potential, as if you get them before they turn 18, then they will be home grown at 21, so by the time they need to be registered, they will be classed as club/nation trained and will still have huge room for potential growth

Found my Non-League to Legend becoming a bit stale, having left Dulwich for Ebbsfleet (both in League 2) and in Feb sitting 3rd 1 point off 2nd, so decided to switch and try a new save to give myself a break. Trying a Save Derby County and whilst it looks a nightmare at the start, have got a good run and find myself heading into December already wiped the 21 point penalty out, and have jumped above Reading into 23rd.

My problem is that we haven’t had a takeover yet, so whilst the squad has done well in the first half of the season, I really need to get the transfer embargo lifted so I can re-enforce the squad with some new signings but no money, and the scouts have come to me with bugger all options.

Just finished first season in the Premiership and noticed the 22/23 season still only allows 3 subs. Is it possible to change this via the editor as I can’t see how to. :rage::rage::rage:

With my old laptop out of service, I miss playing FIFA 10

Not played any of the new ones but in FM19 I took Chester from Vanarama North to the Premier League in consecutive seasons and won the league every year (I downloaded a tactic that is clearly OP).

Lost interest half way through the PL season, I beat Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City in a row with a group of players who are rated as League One level and lost immersion. I know that’s my own fault for “cheating” with tactics but I do not have the time to commit to tinkering.

Fucking hell, I think I would have launched my laptop out the window if that were me

Any idea when fm22 will get a discount? Playing on Xbox game pass right now but would like to buy, just not at $54.

Curious, as I watch Brentford outplay mancs and not sure if this is taboo to even suggest :slightly_smiling_face: but has anyone taken on the mancs currently and not destroyed them as LFC fans but actually fixed them? Got to be a hard challenge I would think.

I bet FM23 will still have Man U rated higher than us.

Just finished 1st season in FM23 beta save, won the domestic treble, bottled it in the Q/F of Champions League after winning 1st leg 3-0 and leading 2nd leg 1-0 at half time, going out 5-4.

Just had a bid come in for my Wonderkid 20yo from a domestic rival, £65M not negotiable. In 1st season he played 22 games, 6 goals and 10 assists with an average rating of 7.21.

Am tempted to tell them to fuck off, what do you lads think?

FM23 mobile has just landed.

I can only assume that whoever rated our youngsters has never actually watched them…

What’s the shortest managerial role anyone has had playing these games?

Mine is 3 games. Took a job with an already relegated team in the old 3rd division. Saw out the remaining 3 games of the season, and then was promptly sacked for failing to keep them up

Had something similar in fm20 managed a team in Kyrgyzstan 2nd division for 4 remaining games then got sacked after failing to avoid relegation

FM24 just released it’s Beta Thursday. Not followed the new update releases this year so slowly trying to work thorugh whats new. So far, am liking the new set peice set up, which whilst not as effective as has been in the past, has a better feel to it, and with the addition of the new set peice coach I think will be a good touch (if I can work out how to get Long Throws landing on the head of my 2 CB’s)

After many years i’ve finally got the FM bug again. I’m still hopeless at the game.

Got sacked after 6 months with Burton (my fault for trying to geggenpress in league 2 lol).

Then got hired by tranmere and am sitting in sixth with half the season still to go. Biggest sore point so far was getting smashed by Everton u21’s in the Bristol Motors trophy. Its the only match i scum saved, replaying it 4 times and got smashed in each one lol.

Can anyone recommend a website or you tube videos that cover how to counter opposition set ups or interpret the data or pre/ in match clues the game gives you to help you make the appropriate changes?

From what I’ve played in FM.

You can gegenpress pretty well across the league’s , but you’ll have to do the appropriate tactical training, strength training etc etc from the pre season onwards.

I would take a look at his training schedules and fit in your tactics accordingly.

And often I’ve found that my tactical style is defined more as a vertical tiki-taka style rather than a gegenpress. Atleast I get better results from there. I don’t know how the football manager differentiates between the two styles though.

Maybe the only difference is that I choose to pass the ball into the box as one of the instructions.

Anyway , for people having Netflix accounts.

Fm2024 mobile version is included in that.

Consistency is key. I’ve found far more effect from playing the same style often so that players’ familiarity with the system and their role within it gets maxed out, than flipping between tactics trying to find ‘the one’.

Also be sure to put each player into individual training for the position and mentality you want them playing mostly as.

In recent editions fatigue has also had a huge impact on player performance, so it’s worth switching playing intensity throughout a match, as if you try to go high-intensity from kick-off for 90 minutes, your players will get knackered and start shipping goals left and right. Better imho to start with a balanced intensity, flip to high for short periods if you really need to chase a goal, and if you’re leading late on go to a more defensive backs-to-the-wall tactic to see the match out.
