The Football Manager thread

Following on from what ZB said, make sure after every game you set up a session for Match Review.

It takes little out of the players physically but over the course of the season, their understanding of the tactic will improve massively. And don’t forget to do Team Bonding and Community Engagement as again, they take very little work physically but are massive for building team cohesion

Thanks. Like with games such as Fallout 3 or 4 i usually get overwhelmed when starting out, trying to do too much (collecting every piece of trash in case it has some use later on lol).

So, this time round i am trying to simplify my approach. I am keeping to the one tactic/ formation(was a balanced 442 wing play at start of season but have just gone to a balanced 424 wingplay set up which feels better).

I have till now left training largely to the staff as it looks really complicated and time consuming to do. Might look at that soon though now i have a formation i like.

I usually only make changes based on what the assistant manager recommends we do ahead of the match. I would like to better understand how those suggestions are made and how to better adapt to in game situations. Intensity i might venture with more. I dont usually change it in game.

Thanks. I saw a video on you tube recommend the reviews and bonding sessions. I try to fit them in but am worried about the fitness impact (i’ve been scarred by my time at Burton which was a disaster as i suffered massively with injuries and unfit players!)

When you set your training, it will give you indications on what the seassion will do in terms of what gains will be made, but also how players will be fitness wise. If you are getting too many injuries, then check your training shedule.

Or take them out behind the changing rooms and shoot them so you can melt them down to make glue

Anyone who says that Football Manager is unrealistic can go fuck themselves…

FSG out

In news that may possibly only be of interest to @Alright_Now_Legend , I have managed to get Joe Gomez to score:

Eat your heart out, Arne!

You are good for something after all.

This is a great episode even if only to experience the incredulity of an American coming to grips with the cultural significance the game has developed

FM 25 cancelled:

Probably the best decision in all honestly, all the signs were that this was going to be a stinker and likely tank. They’ll now put all their focus on FM26 coming out around November.

The problem is that these games have a fixed lifespan. How much more increments can there be done to engage people further ?

And those increments are easier said than done.

I do play the odd football manager game. But nowadays , I can’t be arsed trying to become a manager from national league and then building the team up to PL. I’ve done that a couple of times with the manager games. But nowadays , don’t see myself having the time.

Would love the option to have more immersion into the in game managerial aspect though. Minor tweaks like more specific tactics for individual players. Let’s say a passage in play where you’d want your right back to alternate with long crosses or running with the ball forward with a particular percentages or an RNG element there linked to his decision making abilities on what’s the right move. I mean more player specific tactics etc.

I don’t think that level of detail is there in that game.

I think there is games within the game. I agree it can get boring once you have done managing you favorite team ie Liverpool, then a Non League Club to Champions League.

But there is other stuff you can do by setting your own challenges.

I’m doing a Glory Hunter one at the minute where you have to win the League and Domestic Cup in England, Spain, France, Italy and Germany, plus Champions League and Europa League. so 12 Trophies and you have to do it in 20 years. Doesn’t sound hard until you get towards the end and there is a lack of clubs to move to. I’m two trophies off with 7 seasons to go.

You can do others like, Only sign English players, sell your top 3 players every window, can’t stay at one club more than 3 years, no over 20s

There is loads of things you can find to do by imposing your own restrictions.

There was a cracking one years back, Win the Premier League for the price of Torres. You start with an empty squad and can only spend 50M building your squad. Would be almost impossible these days with transfer values but back then it was a fun challange.

The other good one in the Pentagon challange. You start with no coaching badges, and need to win all 5 continental championships but you can only move to a new continent after winning the current Champions League

I’ve just started a game with a team I created in the editor, Lakenheath United. Idea is that the team is based off the Air Base in Lakenheath. I’m only allowed to sign British or American players (because RAF Lakenheath is a US Air Base in England).

The initial squad I have is entirely made up of players released by PL clubs who failed to find a new ream before the season started (according to transfermarkt). Starting in Conference North.

You need Josh Seargant to captain this team before he retires.

Been really fun so far. You just don’t know how its going to go. Klopp left Liverpool a week before we won the League with Lazio, so timing was perfect to move from Italy after completing that leg. Had I not won the Italian League I would have stayed and ended up somewhere else after Lazio. Valencia were terrible but I was getting them close to competing for the title when Bayern job came up, so I had to jump at the chance to tick off Germany in 1-2 seasons. The French story arc is fantastic as Bordeux were the only club available after Bayern, and they were terrible but the board wanted me to challenge for the title with 7m transfer budget. Promptly got sacked, despite my pedigree and spent 2 months out of work before Lille took me on in February. Luckily there were still plenty of Bosmans to pick up ready for 1st full season, but at one point I thought they were going to sack me as well. Comfortably got the best squad in France now and on for back to back titles, but I need the French Cup which can be a lottery. Really enjoying my wins against Bordeux :joy:

Then I just need to find a home in Spain to win the Spanish League to complete it.

Very doable, but the fun is you never know which club is going to come up. I can image a different story arc every time you run it.

I started at Lazio as they were in the Europa League at the start, but you could add an element of difficulty in it by starting unemployed. would probably cost you a year of you progress time but would be fun.

Yeah you would have to use inflation. ie what would Torres cost in todays Market, £150m??

I like the look of the Pentagon channel but don’t think my Potato of a Laptop could handle the amount of League you would need to run.

I’ve started a playthrough this week of FM24. As I’ve mentioned before I’m rubbish at the game and have about 100 hrs in. (I played a lot of a late 90’s/ early 00’s version of the game but not much since - and I was rubbish then too lolz))

Began unemployed and got a job several months in at Eastleigh in the Vanarama national division. Didn’t do any due diligence, was just happy to get a job (lolz). Got relegated as I couldn’t keep any clean sheets or score goals! For some reason have been kept on but with an immediate target of getting 8pts in first 5 games for this season in Vanarama south.

I’m currently in the summer transfer window and restocking my squad as almost everyone has left.

Board want the team playing a high posession, attacking game. Not sure what tactic or formation to aim for. Tempted to go route one as it is non-league and we’re now a part time team. Previously tried 442 wingplay and 4231 controlled possession. This season thinking of either going 3421 controlled possession (which was my initial plan) or 424 (as I have just picked up a decent poacher to go alongside my target man).

Any one got any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks
