The German Election

I would like to point out that the motion would have failed without the FDP, but Lindner showed his face again.

Yeah. Unfortunately terribly unsurprising.

Now Merkel. Merkel (CDU) and the Christian Churches against the CDU.
The only ones laughing are the AfD. And as seen above the likes of Viktor Orban

I’m waiting for a history buff to tell me why a comparison to von Papen is inaccurate…

Sincerely hope all those considering voting for feel good fringe below 5% parties, like animal rights, hipsters or satire parties, have a bit of a rethink. If they’re considering these parties I would assume they’re not exactly pro AfD or whatever Merz thinks he’s doing there. This will be about narratives post-election and that’s where a few percentage points will absolutely make a difference.

This is not good optics for Merz, well, let’s be honest, the entire country.

I wonder which party would benefit the most from a CDU implosion?

Judging from the early polls, the AfD. Essentially, he has made it clear that a vote for them is not a wasted vote.

The “Zustrombegrenzungsgesetz” is scheduled to be voted on in the Bundestag today. The meeting was interrupted at short notice because the FDP apparently dropped out at short notice (anyone who relies on them is lost anyway) and there are apparently also numerous dissidents in the CDU. Merz is currently negotiating again with Mützenich as to whether the SPD will agree. It’s all so unbelievable

It’s funny how all of a sudden all the Nazis are calling the FDP traitors.

Negotiations are still ongoing between the party leaders

edit
The law that the CDU wants to vote on today is also nonsense. The CDU knows that the law will not pass the Bundesrat, also because of the federal states led by the CDU.
Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein and NRW have already said that they will not agree. So the whole thing is just a farce.

The only good thing about it is that these charlatanas are now at least showing their true colors before the election,

edit
Merz wants to push through this even if there are dissenters.

Yup, all of this for a non-binding motion and laws that won’t pass. Performative bullshit that poisons the political climate even more. Haven’t had that much of a ‘Lagerwahlkampf’ for decades. Haven’t personally used the word political enemies for the CDU for a very long time.

No matter what happens:
In the end, only the AfD benefits from the whole ballyhoo.
That’s not only damn sad, it’s infuriating.
