I still think that 147 at snooker is the hardest of all sporting achievements. I could take 5 wickets or hit 100 on the right day against the right opposition but 147 requires unbelievable skill and strategy.
Yep, particularly on championship tables. Best I’ve managed is 87 on a club table but there was a guy on the team I played with who’d make centuries pretty regularly in practice, including total clearances from time to time. Brilliant to watch. I’d love to see Ronnie play live at some point. Nobody’s made a 155 in competition yet, have they?
You have me beat, never broke 40.
Scouser as well born the same as another thing you could argue is the G.O.A.T
Think I said earlier in the thread I think you have to limit it to Sports, so in my view you can’t say someone say Boxing (and I wouldn’t anyway as I detest it) is the GOAT at Boxing, saying that this guy did do it over multiple sports.
Like to me I’m not a massive fan of Tiger Woods but you can’t argue the guy was unplayable.
As impessive as that feat is, having won it 14 times, means he is a 14 time Championship loser
64 American beers?
So in normal beers that would equate to 10?
Did he actually say that? I’m guessing not.
And he’s not even the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, let alone a contender for the (impossible to answer) greatest across any sport.
Probably tweeted it.
It’s still The Don.
ald Bradman? I think not.
As I’ve pointed out before, his stats are so far above anybody else’s, there’s not much argument.
Cricket in the 30s was played by about 50,000 people. He’s only such an outlier because of the small sample size
Christy Ring or Mick O’Connell qualify as the GOAT…but the sample size is just way too small.
The debate is a bit of fun, but there is no actual way to decide the greatest overall sportsman.
uncovered pitches , no helmets & bodyline was during that era as well.
I don’t like comparing cricketers across era’s as the game has changed so much overtime.
Courtney Dauwalter.
I think Garfield Sobers makes a case to be the best cricketer of all time.
This is despite me being slightly against comparing cricketers from different eras.
Sobers was a quality batsmen averaging nearly 60. To average 60 in that era is nothing short of monumental.
To add to that , he’s a quality test match bowler who could bowl everything. Spin/Pace and had over 200 wickets to show for it. Surely if the conversation was about the best cricketer , Sobers ticks more
