While acknowledging it generally isnt attractive to go backwards like that, but it was my speculation the other day. He is very likely to turn down such a backwards step, but you can understand if we’d at least test the water to see if he was disillusioned with management
EDIT: Although the main reason he might in fact be disillusions with management would be the guy reportedly asking him if he’s interested in a new job
Where I work, we have a daily UPS guy who comes in to collect everything we have to sent out…mostly export docs and all that hot shit & as he’s actually the same guy who sometimes delivers to L4 as LFC and UPS are in partnership with all things logistics.
Last week he actually had a delivery for Klopp and signed for it himself and he told me how they were chatting a bit about what his plans are for post Liverpool. Says he’s off to his home in Mallorca to put his feet up for 6 months & could be back after that.
What I read of his press conference (Klopp’s, not your UPS guy) he sounded just completely over it all. Talking about how long the hours are, how so much of it just really isnt fun the way people imagine it would be. For a guy who runs of positive vibes and wears his heart on his sleeve, you do wonder if that isnt rubbing off on the players a bit.
I’d even make the argument that Pep is more a trainer than a manager. I am sure he has high levels of input there similar to Klopp. But as we’ve seen they keep trying to buy Pep fullbacks and he keeps not using them
I respect edwards/hughes putting their balls on the the table with this hire. Ultimately win or lose it falls on them so I respect their process and them not going with the popular choice (amorim). I will be here cheering and shit talking as always with the hope this Anna Scott hire pays off…
Please don’t mind, but I think it’s a very unfair statement to make about Academy and give credit to Edwards for everything he touches , as he is some sort of messiah.
The success of Academy lies on academy coaches, chief scouts, medical doctors, diet specialist , mental fitness specialists, the bridges between academy and first team coaches like Matos and most importantly the manager Klopp, who ensured to instill the same mentality, playing style and create a vision and implement it in a way that there has been a conveyor belt of talent constantly coming through , when you desperately need them.
I understand Edwards has done well during his tenure. But, he clearly had his differences with Klopp. Contract negotiation was a thing which deffo came out, but since the club ethos are not about washing your dirty linen in public, there may have been more disagreements than were made public.
Do you really think it’s a bizarre coincidence that Edwards came back at the club and joined only when Klopp was leaving ?
or was it because now he can have more say on recruitment and I fear the reason for us going towards unproven managers is that they will be willing to take a backseat of transfer decisions , in a way can be termed as “Yes” man, as others pointed out. But, again, I am not saying this means the coach will have no say, but the powers will be definitely limited.
My only fear is that we should refrain from making guys in suits (Edwards/Hughes) as sort of cult heros , as that will eventually build narratives where coaches can become disposable, but no even will ever question the guys in suits , as they can do no wrong whatsoever.
