They often linked with everyone and his horse.

But yeah whatever.

I bet there are people at Utd praying Carrick runs into a few problems soon otherwise the clamor to rerun the failed Ole strategy will start becoming undeniable. It’s almost worth hoping they continue getting results.

This was my thinking.

If I’m honest he’s probably turned two draws into wins, the lad should get his hair cut but I’ll hold judgement.

Maybe Thomas Frank will be sacked this week and Spurs get their own boost but they have a pretty relaxed schedule til March and even that’s Newcastle who are going across all comps and have a bad injury situation.

Then again it would be just like Man Utd to fuck up against West Ham.

It would but their players now have a coach who’s backing their corner and who’s lifted the mood over there. You don’t beat the champions elect and their closest rivals + a very good Fulham side if your players don’t believe in you. This is why I hoped they would get Solskjaer over Carrick - Solskjaer lifted the mood the first time but was stuck in his strange vicious circle of pushing his luck. I don’t see that with Carrick - he’s here to steady the ship and maximise their performance (and his own stock) until the summer, where someone else will likely take over from him.

You know your constant fatalistic glorification of manure might be cute or funny to some, but it is also starting to become irritating.

Until proven otherwise, the mancs are experiencing nothing more than a new manager bounce.

Ah but Liverpool have a mental fragility which showed up against Bournemouth and half an hour against Newcastle (the latter being a bit odd because you don’t tend to come back if you have mental frágiity though it happened in both games.

Yeah, the Bournemouth comeback was quite something!

They will be back one day, that’s almost for sure.

When? Nobody knows.

You can see it in history, those cycles when all big clubs have a drop, come back. And again.

Thing is also, how many times did people (@Nikola?) feel or predict that they finally got it, since Ferguson’s and Gill’s departure? It’s been 13 years (they might finish top 4/5, but no trophies this season, I’m talking about United being back in terms of winning the biggest trophies).

I remember some of their 2nd place finishes when it looked like they might be onto something.

For example that Mourinho time when they were behind City, trying to match and overtake them and went big for Pogba, Sanchez and Lukaku.

Big players but at the time I just couldn’t see tactically how it would work together between them and also the rest they had. Funny because I’ve heard the same “let’s not moan, because we signed a bunch of great players” argument over our last summer…

Since 2013, their league position average is 5.5. I mean, it doesn’t even sound that bad, but for where United want to be, of course it’s not good. And the damage or time that has passed isn’t only measured by that and 5 trophies won.

We saw with our and other clubs examples that before truly being back, there’s more than half a chance of a few near attempts or something that looks like it finally clicked.

Hang on. United only deal with corners. Forks in the road are new territory. This could be spectacular.

Well, they are 3 wins in a row now. 2 more and they will be able to give that lad a haircut at full time with a Flymo.

If you haven’t seen it, there was a BBC film made about the tragedy starring David Tennant as Jimmy Murphy, the assistant manager. It mostly centres on the aftermath, although the events of the crash are seen from Bobby Charlton’s perspective.

It’s written by Chris Chibnall who later did Broadchurch and Doctor Who:

Talking about United’s formations, I guess masses of fans probably won’t notice that the asymmetrical dynamics of today’s formation against Spurs resembled a little bit to 3 at the back.

Dalot playing more reserved than Shaw, Diallo playing wider than Mbeumo, who was inside left (funny, but Amorim also surprised Tottenham in the reverse game earlier in the season, playing Mbeumo inside left).

If United qualify for the CL this season, it would be a bit reminiscent of how we lost the EL final in 15/16, but then finally qualified for it in 16/17. Hopefully that doesn’t mean they’re in the CL final next season!

:joy:
