The Manchester United Thread: That's It. That's the Joke (Part 1)

As said before, as long as they keep selling millions of shirts, the Glazers will be happy enough.

He’s sold them a bag of goods about how he can restore the Fergie Way and no one at the club has been wise to the fact that he’s all talk. I think it was an attractive proposition because it allowed everyone to treat it as the magic bullet and allowed them all to just continue doing what they were doing. I think the fact that the fans were so eager to buy into this mythology of the Utd Way made it easier for the club to con themselves into this being the right way.

Once you scratch at the surface you realize how shallow the entire approach is, and I think only now are a notable number of fans starting to come around.

Their little zebra pattern shirt may kill off that golden goose too.

Moyes and Ole both at least believed, even if only delusionally, that they had what it took to succeed. Hodgson, for all his talk about being undervalued for his success, I dont think ever really thought he was anything more than a Europa League level manager at best.

Ole got the caretaker role and they exceeded expectations. So they gave him the permanent job. And then it all went iffy. But they rallied enough, and one or two other teams underperformed, so they scraped top four.

The truth is Ole is way out of his depth. A competent manager (with the right team i.e. their own version of Klopp/Edwards working together) would quickly have them challenging for the title, given their resources.

An average dreamer, like Ole, might stumble to fourth if the stars align, but that’s yer lot.

Woodward works for the owners, not the club, as such. He takes a lot of heat from the fanbase, but the owners are probably happy with the income they receive, and don’t care about performance on the pitch, at least to an extent. They won’t want it to completely fall apart, but they are milking it, good style, and the strength of the club wanes by the day, even if the veneer still looks shiny, to some.

I can’t remember which journalist wrote it but someone summarised Solskjaer’s early days in management along the following lines,

Solskjaer began his reign as United boss in record-breaking fashion; first for winning games, then for losing them.

[/quote] meanwhile they seem to despise daniel james, and i don’t think he’s bad at all

Yeah , they really turned on him in short order. (After a promising start when they were all raving about him.)

Have to say I agree though. If he wasn’t fast he probably wouldn’t even be playing at this level.

Avram Grant at Chelsea ?

Needed some time.

Get in before they’re banned

yeah, but the pace alone means he gives them something. for what they paid, and for how he seems to put himself about every time i’ve seen him, he’s really the least of their worries

the biggest prick manager going couldn’t get anything out of pogba, and neither has the PE teacher
