The Manchester United Thread: That's It. That's the Joke (Part 1)

pogba & maguire are both gargantuan flops, but the wan-bissaka fee is still somehow the most outrageous to me

he’s poor on the ball, it’s 2020, and you’re supposed to be a big club

meanwhile they seem to despise daniel james, and i don’t think he’s bad at all

With James I think he will stagnate there, sad really as he is another kid with promise.

If you pronounce Bruno Fernandes correctly it rhymes with the German word for Luton’s shirt colour. He’ll be on and shooting a pen in a minute.

Damning article in The Athletic today:

Worth a read. And the part about United’s excuses about a short summer break ringing hollow when City - who faced the same issues - blew Wolves away two days later, is spot on.

Badly owned, badly run, badly managed, with a squad of individuals failing to pull together as a cohesive team.

Long may it bloody last.

Sadly it is, and so I can’t post the text itself. I know some people have Athletic subs though so posted the link.

I’m unclear, given the state of the Utd squad going into their first game this season, what benefit Ole is supposed to be bringing them. I’ve read somewhere that his system of play is reliant on the players more than it is him. He doesn’t seem to have much positive input on transfers. The squad were unfit/hadnt trained properly coming into the season (I appreciate there are some extenuating circumstances such as some players having Covid 19, others off for the birth of a child,) but i dont think that justifies their failures.

With regards to their transfers have utd i’m curious as to how they function and where their failures actually are. There seems to be little consistency to their way of identifying and trying to buy players. Given the financial power the club has, it seems strange they pinch pennies at the worst possible time for them selves.

I have a theory.

They look at us and see how our transfers are heavily focused on value in one way or another. They’re trying to replicate that such that they can get a grip of the mess they’re in. But there’s a massive breakdown / link that stems in part from Ole whereby he doesn’t know what players he wants, let alone needs.

I just get the impression they really haven’t got a clue what they’re doing.

I also agree that I’m not sure what ole actually does. I bet Phelan covers most of the coaching part, I wouldn’t think he’s all that clued up tactically, probably doesn’t really know how he wants the squad to play. After that other than the transfer side I agree you have to ask. What does he do, other than press conferences.

Both Ole and Frank are playing football manager. It’s going to be so much fun to watch them collapse this season.

I just hope Ole and utd ignore the negative media and opposition fans ridiculing them left, right and centre and bravely carry on what they’re doing.

He’s a shit magnet for the owners. Basically happy to be there, won’t rock the boat. Will let the commercial department run the playing side. Will absorb flak from the fans.

I don’t think there has ever been a man so out of his depth at a top six side. Maybe a close run thing with Hodgey.

He did inherit a mess, I’ll give him that but there’s been very little done to kind of move on. Other than moving on Sanchez and buying Fernandes

Other than that ridiculous goal scored at last moment as a player, how they are banking and completely oblivious that he might be the issue, since he doesn’t have any managerial experience is so funny. Always the problems are either the players or the board for not buying players.

Am worried the day Stevie or Alonso, in case becomes our manager, we do not become this blind which sort of happens out of respect.

Buying , Transfers aside… Ole’s been alright. I hope he gets an extended reign.

Frank though is a carcrash waiting to happen

I find the lack of sympathy for United’s ongoing predicament ( I have to think carefully of the correct word as I may upset someone)

Uplifting :grinning:

30 years we suffered :rage:

If City could join them that would be marvellous.
