Yeah, me too! I think he writes for The Independent as well but majority of those “feelgood” columns were published in this one.

An absolute footballing genius gave him that. It’s great when MU does something that helps LFC.

Jones has become one of those training table salary hogs. A bit like Studge. I wonder if he had the knee operated on. Rumor was it might need it.

I’m contemplating flagging this post as inappropriate. The visualization :face_vomiting:

Reminds me of Mignolet getting a new five-year deal the day after we lost at home to MU (January '16) and Smalling getting a new deal the day before we beat them at home (December '18).

The same player Fergy whiskeynose said could be their greatest ever.

the sacrilege.

Maguire had this image of being a no-nonsense defender. But ever since he’s joined man utd, he’s been nonsense

To be fair, Ole Gollum Soslkjaer (I’m not usually that petty but he’s shown himself to be a bitter little man recently) hasn’t helped Maguire with his tactics. Much like Skrtel or Lovren, I think he’s not a bad center back with a halfway-competent partner in a defensive setup; put him in an open setup with lots of midfield space to run at them, though, and he’s in trouble. I know they counter against the big teams, but they do play pretty high up against low blocks; the issue is that besides Fernandes they have no one to unlock the low blocks and, defensively, they don’t have the pace (Matic) nor the workrate (Pogba) to properly cover the spaces. So, in that sense, I do feel for him.

THAT BEING SAID

The fact they thought he would be a like-for-like van Dijk — no rhyme intended — in terms of being a high-quality 1v1 defender covering big open spaces is laughable; objectively, Virgil is the superior footballer, ability-wise and tactically.

Also proves that they havent been watching Leicester matches when Maguire played for them. He feeds off a better defender, In Leicester’s case Jonny Evans…

He’s the equivalent of a Lovren in that regard where their decision making gets them to do the last ditch tackles etc and he’s being asked to be the sane guy in Man Utd.

Right, exactly; same with Skrtel. I know it feels like 100 years ago but once upon a time Skrtel was a halfway-decent defender when he played alongside Carragher or Hyypia; when tasked with being the leader, however, he was absolute shit.

Virgil’s also way more handsome. Is that rated on FIFA? Bet Virgil’s a 95 for that.

Have to add Agger in that addition with carragher and hyppia.

My grandfather, 84, is American (like me), has no interest in the football on the other side of the pond, but he knows it’s the only sport I really watch, so he’ll entertain me and try to be interested. I showed him VVD and said that he was my favorite Liverpool player and he goes (with no overtones) “that’s a handsome boy.”

To be fair, he used to call me handsome when I was little all the time, so maybe he’s just saying it. :joy:
