The Middle East Thread

All Britain’s fault. :joy:

That would be appropriate as the UK lags behind other countries in taking refugees.
Turkey, Germany, France and Poland all take far more.

Of course it is, everything is our fault.

Well British Mandatory Palestine didn’t really help, did it?

Quite obvious whose fault it is

Poland?

Around 1 million last year. Mainly from the Ukraine crisis.

So we have some IDF dude saying that he hopes the world still stands by Israel in a few days when the truth of what is happening in Gaza comes out (Fuck balls they must be planning some major atrocities if they are using that sort of language given how the two nations have treated each other for decades). This after days of tweets describing in detail what Hamas have done to their citizens with the sign off “just because of our religion!” Isrealis love to play the religion card when it suits knowing no-one dares to pull them up on it given the past.

Then on the other hand we have Palestinian officials giving death toll figures with abnormally specific figures on women and children deaths. Excuse the insensitivity but if Israel is still counting bodies after 4 days, how has Palestine got such figures after 24-30 hours? Is it because women and children deaths play brilliantly in the media but you actually don’t have the foggiest at this stage? I am not at all suggesting there hasn’t been a shit-tonne of deaths in Gaza since Israel received Carte Blanche from the international community to reduce Gaza to dust, but I’m calling bullshit on the women and children figures.

Gaza

Poles will help Ukrainians, no problem there,
They are Slavic people after all

People from africa or middle east, thats a different matter

Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria (the frontier states) are already hosting millions of Palestinians, for decades. This diaspora has caused/is causing social, political, economic strain on their hosts (none of these countries are resourceful/oil states). Egypt isn’t going accept any either for the same reason. Will the Sheikhdoms/Kingdoms accept them? Hosting millions of scarred, brutalized people who hold a grudge against the Kings/Sheikhs for neglecting them for decades? Not a chance.

But it won’t just stop with Gaza, will it. There are three million Palestinians in West Bank and Israel doesn’t want them to be there either.

I agree with that, and I also think that it was a bad idea in the first place. But the solution isn’t to relocate the Palestinians. It’s to apply fucking pressure from the outside on Israel, to finally accept that they’ll have to live with them in the future, and won’t be able to get rid of them. For that to happen, it will imply respecting human rights and international law , and eventually constructing a genuine relationship of mutual trust and tolerance.

It’s a long way to go, but it’s really the only one available. Everything else leads to more suffering. Of course, both sides are required in order to find a fair solution for both sides.

Politically, the way forward could be to form a common federation, which unites Palestinians and Israelis within a same state, while respecting their differences, and giving them the same political rights.

All of this looks overly optimistic given the current predicament, but who knows… maybe a large majority of people will eventually get tired of this permanent state of suffering and fear, and will start looking for a life in peace, instead of that permanent state of insecurity and war.

Quite possibly, but I took the original point as being that they are currently dealing with a refugee crisis.

There is a bit of a perception that refugees show up on a makeshift raft on the other side of the planet. This is a tiny number of the total. 70% of refugees are in a neighbouring country. The largest numbers of refugees per host country according to UNHCR are currently:

Türkiye 3.6 million
Iran 3.4 million
Colombia 2.5 million
Germany 2.1 million
Pakistan 1.7 million

All of those, with the exception of Germany, have taken refugees from a neighbouring country. However, this doesn’t give a full picture because there are small countries such as Lebanon and Jordan that have very large refugee populations given their own relatively small populations.

By comparison, the number of refugees currently in the UK is 364,000 if you include refugees, pending asylum cases and stateless people.

Voting rights and demographic changes alone will put Israel off of that.

They do have a minority of Arabs who have integrated into being Israeli citizens but any more would risk up-ending their way of life entirely.

I do agree with this statement. There is always a tendency from the Palestinians to exaggerate the matter.

But It might also be due to the fact that Israel probably bombed the hospitals and quite a lot of those dead would probably had made it.

But the “women and children” figures , that’s BS.

Israel bombs places looking at the trajectory where the Hamas terrorists launch missile attacks from. The Hamas are just as guilty of putting civilians at risk as the Israelis are of using disproportionate responses.

Gaza, Israel, Jerusalem (unified), and West Bank to become self-governed states. Jewish settlements will remain and Palestinian refugees will return. At the national level, the Jewish and Arab population will be roughly the same and it will mean nationalist/extremist parties will not have much traction and the mainstream parties will have to address the issues of both the ethnicity. Arab and Muslim countries will have no problem recognizing Israel. Billions of dollars will flow as aid and investment.

That can’t be right according to the political party’s GL. PvdA. SP. D66, PVV etc it is always the fault of the Netherlands … :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Saudi Arabia is just about at the finishing stages of a peace deal with Israel which involves major trade deals as well.

These current events notwithstanding, where the Arab countries shed crocodile tears , that deal will get done maybe one or two years down the line.

Again , there’s no impetus for Israel to agree for a single state solution which is anything other than wiping the Palestinians as an entity from their world.

What colour is the sky in your world?

Palestinians and a large part of the Arab world have only one goal in life and that is to drive the Jewish people into the Red Sea.

Israel has every right to defend itself.
