The Middle East Thread

Israel is preparing to go further into Rafah. They are invading Rafah. It will be a serious challenge for US/Biden to prove that his redline was actually a no-go.

Surprised here too. Guess they don’t walk the talk when it doesn’t suit them.

Plenty of countries do that and still be there in the UN (and in the security council too)

Anyway , this is nothing but an excercise to show how broken the security council is.

A cabal of self serving war mongering nations.

It’s not surprising at all. It’s helpful to google governments when you wonder about such things really  The answer is usually very obvious with a 10 sec google serch and a 1-2 min wiki read.

The Hamas terror attack on Oct. 7, unleashed strong politcal support for Israel in Sweden (amongst other countries).

Let us be clear: For Ulf Kristerson’s government, Swedish Security Politics trumphs everything and that is obviously dominated by the shadow of Russia. In adition, there is a backclash against Islamists in Sweden these days after years of a bit of the opposite (they are not that good with the middle ground really when it comes to immigration and interation policies imo, so goes from “We are totally accepting and naive” to "this has gone too far, you are a problem). Note that the support party of the Moderaterna (Conservative party) is Sverigedemokraterna, which is a Nationalist Party that is all about Swedish Culture and are outright hostile to foreign culture (Sverigedemokraterna, back in the day, many years ago, used to be an actual National Socialist party).

1+1+1+1 = 4 etc.

If you are interested in details:

But in short, Kristerson’s government is likely to always support the US due to the shadow of Russia, which has certain implications in geopolitical matters. These days, it is all about defense contracts and armament and keeping the US happy (very simplified).

This has led to some rather disgusting policies, like :

I don’t very much like the Swedish government to put it mildly. I think they are where they need to be on Ukraine and they are wisely taking the security situation seriously, but everything else about that government is simply put, things I don’t like.

But thankfully, they are not amongst the worst, despite the disgusting government constalltion (but they did indeed cut funding to UNWRA for quite a while like many other European states), so has resumed funding UNWRA:

But obviously, things like this, doesn’t help The Palestinian Cause, you know and has political consequences:

But enough about Sweden, unless you have questions.

That’s the second hostage killed in the Rafah operation.

Israel is storming Rafah to eliminate Hamas while fighting them in the north

It’s not rhetoric, he makes good arguments. This guy and the Palestinian ambassador in UN are qualified people. All the while the Palestinians are burdened with shits like Abbas.

In reality they are taking negligle losses, from a military point of view. But it’s normal that parents are worried, since some will indeed die or get seriously injured in a totally aimless campaign that doesn’t strenghten the security of the Israeli state. Fucked up campaign to die in indeed.

And indeed, in the article I see this. They get it:
“Our apprehensions have materialised as we witness the military withdrawing promptly from an area, only for Hamas to swiftly regain control over it,” Anat said. “In the first months of the war we backed the whole operation. There was no other choice but to fight and get rid of Hamas in Gaza. But in the last months, we understand there is no clear plan.”

Aimless, invade, withdraw, cleanse, withdraw, cleanse withdraw. Israel makes zero attempt at occupying territory and then what is the fucking point from a military pov ? Hamas is regenerating steadily, recruiting many, still popular because of the fucked up methods of the IDF.
Idiots. Most idiotic war in my life time.

Self Harm, the entire war is self harm from both sides. Absurd to see two sides climbing over each other to do strategic damage to themselves for no real political gain. No achievable victory in sight, no vision of the Day After. No plan from the israeli side to install PA, no, no, they are afraid of that. That’s dangerous, could lead to a possible Two State, very bad. Better just wade around killing and destroying and making yourself a pariah state for no gain.

But Netanyahu’s cabinet doesn’t want such a plan of course:

The problem with Egyptian massives bribes and extortion has been reported since this horror show began. 100 mil dollars is a lot of bribes from desperate Palestinians though:
