The Middle East Thread

The predictable propaganda shoots are ongoing:

A lone vessel managed to get into Gaza/Palestine territorial waters.

Live-stream is off. NO words on the status and locations of the nearly 500 activists arrested

The interesting thing is that all around the world, the protests in favour of Palestina and against Israel’s deeds are growing fast. This attempt might be a failure, but it will increase the pressure on Israel. Especially with the way they placate themselves as liars, linking the flottilla to Hamas. Pathetic. :see_no_evil_monkey:

It seems that the people from the flotilla will be sent back to Europe. But I wonder what will happen to the ships, and to their cargo. Loot for the Israeli marine? Anyone knows?

Oh there is word, if you know where to look

As for the last sailboat, it was boarded at the coordinates you showed. It was not visible from Gaza according to activist sources.

But they made the Israelis work hard and caused them some humiliation and like @Hope.in.your.heart said, it got attention. And this was also the entire point with the flottilla (the point was never to deliver aid, which is impossible in this manner, but to humiliate Israel and raise attention to the blockade and cause political problems for governments that cooperate with Israel). None of the serious activists thought they would reach Gaza, since that is impossible.

I say job well done. Some of the activists are quite impressive.

Thanks mate. I follow only a handful of sources which I know to be reliable.

Would/could you please verify if the story/rumor of a second flotilla preparing to sail from Spain is true?

I don’t know, mate.
And I don’t have time now. But if I come across it later, I will let you know.

I am worried that it will take maybe a year or more for the next real ceasefire offer and I am very worried as to what Israel migth enact with Trump’s blessing in the meantime.

Because after days where Islamic jihad backed and Hamas changed their language into a more positive one, they have last nigth and today changed into a very negative one, which probably indicates a big no

There will be differences between different cabals who make up Hamas. It’s to be expected.

Plays right into what Israel / US are planning. Furthering the divides between the different factions and picking off who they can in the meantime.

The more divisions / fractures that rise to the surface , the more land Israel can simply refuse to return while still claiming to have held their part of the bargain up.

And this is without taking other terrorist groups that operate in Gaza.

A second flotilla of nine vessels has reached Crete

Hamas have agreed to release all the hostages, living and dead, but want further negotiations on the rest of it. Trump has seized this as a win and has called on Israel to stop bombing.

I’m sure he’s now rubbing his hands together at the thought of getting the Nobel Peace Prize.

I can’t see Israel accepting further negotiations. It’s all or nothing with them.

At the same time, Trump narcissism might help here.

There was a very good interview last week on CNN where Christine Amanpour was talking to the co-authors of a new book about the historic failure of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process ; Tomorrow Is Yesterday. Robert Malley and Hussein Agha were both negotiators involved with the Oslo Accord and both seem to have ended up in the same place with regard to the idea of a two state solution. In brief , it will never happen and was never much more than illusion which helped sustain the status quo and eventually brought us to today’s horrors.

Here , Robert Malley gives an interview to Le Monde , and the book is out on Oct 20.

Yeah, I didn’t really read about this one. If I had, I would have got back to you as I said, Ifthikar. But so much happening in the world (I mean, look at Georgia).

So this is happening then, I assume. There is very little chat about it, so must be fairly low profile.

And what is the solution then? Keeping the hostages indefinitely, while seeing everyone in Gaza being starved and bombed to death? Netanyahou and his fascist ministers would be very happy to see that scenario unfold.

The return of these hostages is long overdue anyway, and quite frankly, given the forces in presence, the only chance now to stop the current slaughter. The ‘peace plan’ won’t provide justice for the Palestinians by any means, but if it can at least stop the bombing, and allow food and medics to get into Gaza, it would already be a success.

If the slaughter and the starving goes on despite of this, then releasing the hostages won’t have made any difference.

That’s exactly what I thought when I read that.

What is the solution?

Basically he’s saying the best the Palestinians can do is die with their boots on.

They’re dead either way so might as well die with dignity.

Nobody is going to intervene over the US
