Invoking Hitler is also a way of pointing out the inherent hypocrisy of the actions of the Israeli government.
The Jewish people suffered from genocide, yet are attempting exactly the same thing in Gaza. It beggars belief.

I think it is a very good example of Godwinâs Law, personally. The comparison doesnât hold up well, and poisons the conversation - where something like comparing what is happening to the Palestinians to the Rohingya would seem far more accurate and less polemical.
Itâs funny because I agree with the quotes that youâve provided. Why the fuck are Jews in Australia getting racially abused by fellow Australians for actions an Israeli government is making in Gaza?
I mean, I donât really get the demand for every man and his dog to condemn the Hamas attacks. It goes without saying that we all condemn it. Americans didnât require a condemnation every 20 second after 9/11 or Brits after 2005. Are we expected to have a suffix sentence verbally and written every time we speak about Gaza, Hamas, Israel? âI GoneKloppo hereby fully condemn the October 7th attack. Now about the bombing by IsraelâŚâ
I donât understand what is wanted here? An awful terrorist attack happened. Like they happen all over the world. If the Israeli leaders took the right action in the first instance instead of blowing up children within 24 hours we all would have had more time to mourn.
Actually, they sort of did
What they want is for Aussies to line up completely with Bibi and his murderers and declaim any comments supporting Palestine as âantisemiticâ
The Republican Presidential debate was terrifying on this account last night. Just a race to the bottom on who could voice more blood lust than the rest. Sure, for several of them it might have been performative, but its often no less a performative thing once someone gets into office.
It all felt very Winter 2001 not least for how unthoughtful the comments were, but the willingness to throw Arabs and Muslims under the bus in general. De Santis offered scorn at the idea of the Whitehouseâs recent Anti Islamophobia initiative, scoffing at the need for it and positioning as another finger in the eye to Israel (who will support do anything they want. Almost the very next question from the moderators was about the story of the little Palestinian boy in Illinois stabbed to death by his landlord.
Godwin himself has come out and said that since the rise of Trump the certainty of discussions progressing towards claims of Hitler/Nazis/fascism is because of the reemergence of actual Nazis
Seriously can you not see that by conflating jewishness with Israel you are on dangerous groundâŚ
Generally accepted definition of anti-semitism includes.
Arminius is doing the conflating
Yeah, it felt like a goddamn auction on that score
If you look at the IHRA definition of antisemitism it also includes:
Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
So I can see how likening Netanyahu to Hitler could make that connection. TBH I find it more crass than anything else. A more accurate analogy would be the actions of European settlers in the Americas or the British in Australia.
I think itâs worth pointing out there has been a lot of controversy over how broad that IHRA definition is, even within Israel and the wider Jewish community. And of course, predictibly so, any criticism of the definition is met with accusations of anti-semitism, which I believe is largely the point of the people criticizing the definition.
Attack on culture or identity is the most vicious form of fascism. Most often, it doesnât even require bullets or bombs, but it strikes at the very heart of millions.
When Pakistan was created, itâs component states were Punjab (or, as it was known in the early days, West Punjab), Sindh, Baluchistan, NWFP (North-West Frontier Province), and East Bengal (Part of the Bengal Kingdom and the Bengal province of British colony of India). The Pakistan regime was always very uneasy about us having an unique culture and identity. Our defiant and restive nature caused even more concerns. So, in the late 50s, they decided to baptize us as East Pakistan. It was one of the numerous abuses and atrocities (which also included a genocide) we suffered during our 24-year stint with Pakistan. Finally, in 1971, we said fuck you and became Bangladesh. It costed us three million lives, but itâs totally worth it.
Is the slogan âfrom the river to the seaâ malicious in any way? Itâs not even the invention of malicious Hamas. Maligning the slogan or anyone who uses it has the sole purpose of obscuring and maligning the Palestine identity. Whatâs next! An assimilation program like the one comrade Xi has for the Uyghurs (or the Tibetans a few decades ago)?
Agreed. Can we keep Hitler and the nazis out of this, at least in this forum? We are almost 80 years down the line. Netanyahou, Hamas and other war criminals should be judged for what they are, not how and if they look like Hitler or are nazis.
anyone else think that Putin has himself a real winner in this action from Hamas?
A month on, and with help from his mates in Iran heâs successfully distracted the world from Ukraine.
Itâs not that long ago,on this forum, that we were suggesting putin was like hitler. Is netanyahou not in the same catagory as putin and therefore the same catagory as hitler?
In my opinion, itâs equally wrong to liken Putin with Hitler.
In one dimension, yes. But in other ways, this is nowhere near ideal for him. Russia is a non-factor in this crisis, because Russia is completely tied up. It might be best for global peace that this does not pull Russia and the US into a vastly higher risk of conflict, but the resultant freer hand for Israel is a big part of why Netanyahu is able to proceed along the course that he is.
Similarly, for some Russians, being sidelined is a basis for national humiliation, and if Putin gets on the wrong side of that sentiment, he could be in trouble very quickly.
Why,if they are so alike?putin, hitler, nethanyahou have all invaded other peoples land, indiscriminately killing innocents in order to achieve their goal of controlling and subjugating a culture/race/people who are different to their own.
But is that antisemetic or calling Bibi out for being the egotistical twat that we all know him to be?
more importantly, it puts the focus of the United States much more squarely on the side of Israel over Ukraine. No chance that they can support two conflicts simultaneously.
I suspect weâll see a switch in tactics here from the Ukraine forces, may be âjust in timeâ for them to hunker down until the spring and try to make minute advancements in key areas while rationing whatâs left of the western support
