The Middle East Thread

This is truly one of the WTF things I have read online. Just speechless.

Why not just call it what it is…the Israeli lobby. There is no “Jewish lobby”. I despair if you can’t see that it is so wrong to lump all jews in a lobby just as it would be to say the Muslim lobby or Christian lobby. It is lazy terminology at the very least and arguably far worse.

But let me remind you what he actually said to @Arminius

You are a Jewish apologist and shrill and you should at least have the honesty to admit this.

I didn’t get say so at the time, but I was disappointed at the mix up between shrill and shill.

The standards on this forum have gone to the dogs :joy:

So what’s the Israeli lobby?

But, I haven’t addressed this point at all.

Not that they are going to achieve anything, but the very fact that it took them five weeks and thousands of deaths just to have a summit on the most catastrophic events in their own backyard says a lot about these morons.

Palestine deserves better than Abbas and Hamas.

And the fact that Bashar al-Assad is there kinda makes a mockery of the whole exercise. The guy who is only in power today because he invited Hezbollah and Russia in to his country to bomb his own schools and hospitals now wants to pontificate on the misdeeds of the Israeli army , really ?

I don’t actually like the word lobby but to call it the Israel lobby makes more sense at least to me and avoids any possible accusations of anti-semitism. Not everyone in that lobby is Jewish and not all Jews are members of it.

I have relatives who are members of an evangelical church and a few years ago I attended a family event at the church. When you walk in you would be excused for thinking you had come to a synagogue. On the wall in the entrance is a big Israeli flag and there are menorahs and large photos of Jerusalem. They apparently give part of their collection to Israeli charities.

I avoid any discussions as they know my opinions do not align and I don’t understand their unwavering support for Israel but they tell me it is based on the Old Testament and that the return of Jews to Israel is somehow fulfilling God’s conditions for the 2nd coming of the Messiah.

You could just upset them all anyway and be a very naughty boy.

Little more than the extension of crusades this has become.

Take all the people out of the land i.e Israel and nuke it for all I care.

This is about point scoring now and never about saving the Palestinians. For these countries.

i wonder what the survivors of the Halocaust who are stll alive today,
think about this guy wearing this yellow star as a statement

Absolutely. Anyone who understands anything about the history of anti-semitism understands that the idea of a ‘Jewish Lobby’ is a modern expression of phrases like ‘International Jewry’ and other nasty concepts. It doesn’t just mean a lobbying group who are Jewish. That’s incredibly naive.

What also makes me despair is when people see a really clear instruction from a moderator, and think it’s then appropriate to continue having a debate about it in the thread. There is a point where people have to just shut the fuck and do as requested.

To see this guy proudly wearing his yellow star is in itself as disgusting as it gets. Have these people who chose to wear this no shame? They are sullying the memory of the millions of people who were forced to wear them, and then were indiscriminately slaughtered. Shame on them!

Because I’m a mod, and I can do what the fuck I want*, if @1972 wants to depart in a toddler strop because he couldn’t bear being told to use one phrase rather than another, I have decreed, using the powers vested in me, that he isn’t having his valedictory gif moment.

There’s no point to score. There’s even no face to save. The Western world (who are largely dependent on Arab oil) has boldly stood by Israel while it’s committing a massacre (for five weeks) say everything about the standing of the Arab and Muslim countries.

Worth noting that only about 15% of oil used in the US ever comes from the Persian Gulf, and usually it is lower. Even Europe is not that critically dependent on the Gulf any more.

The only problem is that if OPEC restricts supply it pushes up prices for everyone. They do have a lot of leverage.

I thought Europe is very dependent on Arab oil since the outbreak of the Ukrainian War.

More so, yes - but imports of oil from North America have increased by more than from the Gulf. Unlike a generation ago, the US is a net exporter of oil.
