“Smiths Rule Ok!” is a fucking awful title, and the artwork is terrible, as well.

Iconic 70s metal band announce ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ 50th anniversary tour

image

It’s official, Iron Maiden is embarking on a huge 50th anniversary tour with tickets set to go on sale imminently. The Run For Your Lives tour promises to be a ‘once-in-a-lifetime live experience’ for fans of the metal band who formed in 1975. Kicking off in 2025, Iron Maiden will play five UK and Ireland gigs in June as well as European dates over the summer. The set list is said to span the Fear of the Dark singers’ first nine studio albums in an elaborate production to celebrate 50 years

image

Tickets go on sale on Friday, September 27, at 12pm through Live Nation’s website (which usually hosts sales through Ticketmaster). ‘Next year is a very special one for Iron Maiden and we’re going to be giving our fans a once-in-a-lifetime live experience,’ shared lead singer Bruce Dickinson, 66. He continued: ‘This is a tour that’s gonna put a smile on your face and a cheer in your throat. If you’ve seen us before, then get ready to take that experience to a whole new level’

‘If you’ve never seen us before, then what the hell have you been waiting for? Now’s your chance to find out what you’ve been missing! Iron Maiden’s definitely gonna get ya!’ The group will play in Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin, and London, where they will perform at West Ham’s London Stadium. Founding member Steve Harris is a lifelong fan of the football club and shared: ‘My love of football and my support of West Ham is no secret, and I know many of our fans around the world have shared that with me too’
‘So we’re all very excited to be playing at the London Stadium as part of the Run For Your Lives tour. And of course, it’s not just London – the whole UK tour is going to be a real celebration for all of us. To be able to bring this very special show to all our fans across the UK and Ireland next year is going to be a great way to mark 50 years of Iron Maiden. We can’t wait to see you all there!’
All UK and Ireland shows will be opened by British heavy metal group The Raven Age with American rockers Halestorm joining in Dublin and London. Iron Maiden first hit UK charts in the 70s and have been staples of the metal and rock scene ever since. They are currently embarking on The Future Past World Tour around the world, which is set to end in December in Sao Paulo. Tickets for Iron Maiden’s UK and Ireland tour go on sale on Friday, September 27 at 12pm

A friend of mine was asking if I fancied going to the Manchester gig. I think it clashes with when we would be planning summer holidays next year. It’s a pity, because they appear to be doing all their 1980s stuff which was very much my period for them.

Ditto.

They had a run of excellent albums from Iron Maiden in 1980 to Seventh Son… in 1988. I found they tailed off after that, but that’s just my opinion.

I’m definitely going to the London Stadium show.

Old school thrash but in their own style.

Kill Grid was amazing, it’s what got me into them. Power Trip were a similar modern thrash band, I love that sound!

Brave New World and A Matter of Life and Death are masterpieces in my opinion. In my view, they stand shoulder to shoulder even with Seventh Son and Somewhere in Time. That period in between wasn’t good, though, '90s weren’t kind to them.

Met them all last time they were in London. Lovely bunch of lads!

Seeing them in a couple of months along with GateCreeper (another killer band).

Since we are doing heavy stuff, I hadn’t heard Kreator for maybe 15 years before I rediscovered them on Tons of Rock this summer. I’ve been listening through their albums a bit since then (not that much, but a bit). Kreator was the most stressful concert I have been on since I as in my early 20s. People crowdsurfing over me all the fucking time. I was both tired and , lol, a bit grumpy and almost dropped a woman in irritation who went crowdsurfing over me for the 3d fucking time
I was on some truly smashing concerts on Tons of Rock: Uriah Heep, Opeth, Kreator, WASP, Saxon, Metallica, Satyricon and of course main event for me; Judas Priest.

Kreator was probably my least favorite of the concerts I mentioned above (slightly too manic and hard for me personally), but that was just because all of the other ones were beyond awesome.

And then of course there were heaps of other bands, some of them really good, like Tool, but I didn’t watch other concerts than the ones i mentioned, since I am getting old, i guess. So I chilled and basically went on 2-3 concerts per day of the festival instead of running around like a teenager and catching 5-7 per day. I’d rather have an hour or two breaks and drink a pint, eat and enjoy life and chat with friends in between concerts than stressing around like I was 17.

If I was 17 though, I have to say, the line up we had in 2024 was pretty damn fucking spectacular:

Alas, I made hard priorities and chose to enjoy the individual concerts more than “catching them all”.

Maiden were in Sydney last week and I didn’t go. They essentially just played songs from Senjutsu and Somewhere in time. Regret not going.

But if it had of been Piece of mind and Powerslave I would have defo gone.

I saw them live at the Liverpool Empire during the Somewhere In Time tour. Fantastic gig and really underrated album as well.

They have evolved over the years. Their debut album in 1980 was gloriously ferocious, but they have moved into a more prog direction over the years.

Their early 2000s albums were spot on. Paschendale is one of my favourite tracks, a sort of metal tone poem.

My daughters went to that show, their first big metal show and LOVED it!!

Oh mate! Having learned the hard way, I now go near the front left or front right. That way crowdsurfers don’t go over me any more. The gigs I wasn’t able to enjoy because of what happened were the first time I saw Grand Magus and another time seeing Testament (both at festivals).

I got my phone stolen both times. They likely nicked it while I was helping some damn crowdsurfer. Lesson finally learned at the third time of asking.

Speaking of crowdsurfing, the second time I saw Decapitated (At a London venue) they allowed stage diving. One bloke look a flying leap in my direction. Thankfully I side stepped the direct impact and fellow metalheads in my immediate vicinity helped to absorb the impact.

Bet you had it in your back pocket.

Always keep your mobile in one of your front pockets. That way, nobody is getting to it without your noticing. Same applies to wallets.

Side pocket but clearly whoever took it saw me get video clips of the band and nabbed it when the mosh pit caused the crowd to heave in one direction. Crafty fuckers.

I have a system now. Either a small single shoulder back with the pouch on my chest at all times or trousers with zipped pockets. And I’m a lot more aware of what’s going on around me.
