The Owners - FSG (Part 2)

We can create a special sponsorship location for Bezos and his amazon. 100m for the name of Amazon on the player’s butts.

Why? Amazon paying a load of money would not be bad. Standard Chartered have a few skeletons. People suddenly get soo precious.

If you do not like big business and money then watching football these days is the wrong game.

Are they seriously going to ask Bezos to prove his wealth?

I mean hours a month :see_no_evil_monkey:

I think quite a few members here are sadly coming to that realization.

Some members here don’t even need to be rich

In a world with any kind of justice, a big big part of their money would be taken away from them to alleviate the many problems they created in the first place. And if they resist, well then…

The 50+1 rule is fine, and Barca and Real Madrid, arguably the biggest clubs in the world, are fans-owned as well. It generally works well for them, even though that model has its own problems at times.

But unfortunately, I can’t imagine England ever instating something similar to the 50+1 rule. Filthy-rich billionaires it is then… At least, fsg are a sports consortium. They haven’t made their fortune by exploiting and underpaying their employees like Bezos has done all his life.

Also, they care about the club and to a degree, about sport. Yes, it’s an investment for them, and a business opportunity, but at the same time, they have built up a relationship with the club, and the fans. The way they backed down over inflating the ticket prices is an example of this. If a guy like Bezos comes eventually in as a majority stakeholder, there won’t be any discussions anymore. LFC will be 100% about making even more business and lining up his pockets.

I wouldn’t label anyone on here as a twat, and I hope your comment wasn’t directed at me. It wasn’t, was it?

From the BBC…

When FSG attempted to raise season ticket prices last season, fans’ group Spirit of Shankly (SOS) launched a campaign called ‘Not a Pound in the Ground’.

It urged fans to buy food and drink from local businesses in the Anfield area rather than inside the stadium. It worked, forcing the club to cut the size of their increase.

SOS has doubts about the proposed investment and has raised a number of concerns.

“We would like to know what the buying consortium will get in return for their 30% stake,” an SOS spokesperson told BBC Sport.

"Specifically, what would be the level of involvement in the control of the club and will they take a seat or seats on the board?

"And of huge importance, what due diligence is being done on the potential consortium of investors?

“Does this potential consortium have the best interests of the club at the forefront or is it a ‘trophy’ buy?”

Actually, does a fan group like SOS support the unlicenced vendors selling badges and scarves outside Anfield on match days?

Yes. it was a big part of their campaigning against Liverpool trying to copyright the Liverpool name.

It’s a fine line between copyright theft and the kind of ancillary businesses that will always follow in the wake of a community and cultural asset like LFC.

How is SOS a factor now ?

I get that they played a very sizable role against Gillette and Hicks. But the club is operating on a different financial wavelength now. FSG can quite simply ignore SOS.

They don’t. Since they came in, they have maintained a communication channel with fans representatives, through their Supporters Board. They set it up after they came in. Among the representatives, there are also some members of SoS.

The current Liverpool Football Club Supporters Board

  • Jay McKenna Supporters Board chair and SOS committee member
  • Vacant CultuRED representative
  • Mick Corness Liverpool Disabled Supporter Association (LDSA)
  • Cassie Rattray Kop Outs representative
  • Jamie Rees-Winters Liverpool FC Women Supporters Club chair
  • Jackie Wilcox elected by OLSC group chairs
  • Andy Hudson Spion Kop 1906
  • Vacant SOS chair
  • Joe Blott SOS committee member
  • Matty Johnson SOS committee member
  • George Bevan SOS committee member
  • Ian Byrne SOS committee member
  • Brian Pickstock SOS committee member
  • Gareth Roberts SOS committee member
  • Roy Bentham SOS committee member
  • Anna Burgess SOS member

Ok to push it further. Does the club has any right to push for copyright theft in a night market in Thailand for example? Would SOS fight for that right since they are against Liverpool copyrighting Liverpool but they only support the enforcement of infringement if it’s not Liverpool locals? Serious question.

Add: to me it would be hypocrisy if they do not support the right of Liverpool fans all around the world to print their own stuff and sell and only support enforcement on everyone except Liverpool locals?

The fact that FSG gives SOS a voice is good. But what makes SOS the whole voice of Liverpool fans worldwide.

At some point , FSG can well decide to say that we aren’t encouraging them any further.

Yeah they can ignore them …but dont be surprised when they do ignore them in future over some sort of outrage from fans who want to ignore sos…that when Sos do arrange protests they get the support needed, whilst we are all liverpool supporters, and i may not agree with SOS , on a local level they are essential to any fan regardless if local or not , because any of these venture capitalist would love to ignore the social aspect of our club…and for liverpool to deny that regardless of an individuals political beliefs , is to deny liverpool football club a massive part of its heritage .
