The Times contacted FSG but they declined to comment on how negotiations were progressing. As the deal is for more than 25 per cent of the club, it would be subject to the Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test and the new Independent Football Regulator before being finalised…joyce
Bezos is part of not the main person. This is being headed up by Bhatia.
They will want success and the profit that comes from that. No doubt sponsorship is one area he may be keen on but Severin may have ideas on that?
We may have a steel company on our chests. As for TV it’s an odd one as Amazon lost its PL games last time and until the PL teams agree to sell tv righ
Well we have accepted Standard Chartered with barely a whimper so not sure Amazon is any worse. Vast majority of fans won’t give a toss if he pumps billions in over the years for shiny new signings and we win a few titles.
Is it so hard to find one of the nice billionaires..?
Ultimately these days the club is going to be owned by some mega wealthy fuck, a bunch of wealthy fucks or some gulf state fucks. That’s the reality of being valued at £4bn or whatever it is.
All you can hope for is they keep a low profile, deliver success and the finances needed to achieve it and occasionally listen to fan opinions.
Yes, but 95% of the time anti-social media is a metaphorical toilet full of narcissists who think they’re famous because they opened an Instagram account.
Even though Amazon will only be minority owners this deal will have a dramatic effect on the financial performance of the club with the analogy being ‘moths to the flame’. Amazon clout will draw in both commercial and media interest in droves which can only be good for our balance sheet and thus our budget to buy top players under the transfer rules.
That’s the good stuff, which I’d rather focus on right now rather than dwell on what it means for TV rights, sponsorship, naming rights, stadium signage etc… Standard Chartered have a £50m shirt agreement until the end of the coming season then it’s up for grabs. Gulp! Don’t want to choose between FB and Amazon tbh.
The newly signed Philadelphia 76ers star acquired a 2% minority stake in Liverpool back in 2011, shortly after FSG bought the club.
James “acquired” his 2% stake in the team rather than buying it because he was able to work out a deal with FSG where the basketball legend agreed to be added to FSG’s official client list that they used to recruit new athletes. James also agreed to allow FSG to pitch him other business deals where they would earn a commission. In exchange, James and his business partner Maverick Carter were given a 2% stake in Liverpool, according to “LeBron, Inc.: The Making of a Billion-Dollar Athlete,” a biography written by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
James’s stake in Liverpool was valued at around $6.5 million in 2011, and would be valued at $325 million if the deal with Bezos goes through, according to sports journalist Darren Rovell.
Agree. I also think the extreme wealth - and certainly for the likes of Bezos - the lack of personal interest of these individuals mitigates against meddling. At this point its just another investment, an opportunity to diversify and have exposure to a dynamic industry. That could change if any of these guys got full individual control but is actually more complicated and thus unlikely at this point.
Personally I’m not that bothered about the guy who owns 8% of Amazon being part of consortium that hopes to buy one third of LFC. Of course, Bezos is a twat. Most excessively rich people are. You don’t get to be that rich by being a nice guy. I’m pretty sure that John Henry and his hedge fund billionaire pals have been responsible for more than a few people losing their jobs.
Bezos and his ilk may not be likeable, but far better someone like that owning part of the club than some oil rich state that commits crimes against humanity, i.e. not allowing freedom of speech, practicing modern slavery, executing gays and suppressing the rights of women, on a daily basis.
