The Owners - FSG (Part 2)

Which will likely involve all possible efforts to ‘monetize the brand value’. Likely also maximize match day revenue. A company built the way Amazon was is absolutely not going to recognize the fact that the supporters have always been an unpaid part of the product.

“If we are a global brand bigger than Arsenal, why aren’t we charging more for the seats the whole world wants?”

I am of the ‘skeptical’ view, only time will tell if these new board members are genuine with their intentions to promote the club globally preserve the traditions and culture of the club.

Yeah I looked up this guy.

I’m ok with him.

Agreed.

Let’s wait and watch. If it means more investment in the club , am for it.

It still might be doable if FSG’s core team is kept on board.

Have you visited the area recently? It’s like a fucking 3rd world shithole.

I do agree that if this transfer can be potentially good if Anfield does get extended. We are at 53000 right now which is a sizable amount. But richer owners with deeper pockets can negotiate good prices for acquiring the land around anfield.

We should be looking at a 80k to 90k seater stadium.

This sums it up for me

FWIW, I will support the idea of fan ownership til the day I die and hope that the likes of Spirit of Shankly put it on their agenda again

No doubt Anfield would still be sold out for every home match even at +75k but from the few times I’ve been at Liverpool it always felt like the City was already ‘too crowded’ before and after the games.

Even expanding it +5000 seats - I’m not sure if it would work logistically (parking, trains, busses, etc.)

On the Anfield Wrap the other day, they were asking the question why would Jeff Bezos want from his investment in Liverpool? Could he want to get a foot in the door of football with a view on TV rights? What is his endgame regarding a brand synergy between Liverpool and Amazon? And so on.

For me it’s a bit more simple than this. Billionaires buy shit because they have to do something with their money. They can’t spend it. And they certainly can’t put it in a bank. The only thing you can do with that much money is to buy assets.

Eventually billionaires will own everything, and all the wealth will have been sucked out of society by these cunts.

Its never that simple though. If it was they wouldn’t be billionaires in the first place

Sithbare’s figures are wrong. Capacity has been 60K for a couple of seasons now.
You are correct, parking is hopelessly inadequate and there are no train stations close to the ground. I doubt the bus services to and from the ground have improved since the 70’s.
The only stand that is open to extension is the Kenny Dalglish which could possibly add another 5K but I see very little prospect of that happening anytime soon.

I’ve noticed a major difference from a Saturday and Sunday game mind.

Regardless of what match it was, I think it’s a destination city for weekend trips and so it doesn’t much surprise me. I’ve been able to book reasonably priced hotels on a Sunday.

Even if you park the concerns about Bezos being a dick, which he clearly is, there are still issues about how the club will be run under this new regime.
FSG had a proven track record in sports, and their resuscitation of the Red Sox showed that they had what we needed at that time. Apart from a couple of missteps, they have understood the club, its fans and its culture and have been great custodians.
I’m not convinced that the new lot offer the same vision. Obviously time will tell. I’m not ready to walk away from a life long love affair just yet, as I would have been if eg Musk took over, but I need to see whether they get what they’re getting.
We’re not just another shiny toy, we are a unique part of sporting culture, not only in the city, or the country, but also internationally.
YNWA must continue to mean something special.

Personally always loved Amazon as a business, there were originally some concerns about worker conditions, but improvements have been made to correct this, by way of fully automating distributions centres so no human workers are exploited, or infact, even required.

We can all buy our little pieces of plastic landfill at competitive prices, and receive delivery within hours, without anyone being hurt

Bravo to centre left philanthropist Jeff Bezos and welcome to our family, with the sort of cash injection assumed, we can now easily continue to support the football transfer market which always will have a trickle down positive effect into growing the grassroots game

Well said. Hopefully the transition period with FSG with help them ‘get’ us. Beyond that Bhatia should also be a voice that they listen to. Let’s see what happens.

One reason for not charging the same as Arsenal would be Liverpool versus London. Obviously that’s chalk and cheese in terms of property values and salaries, with prices being commensurately higher in London.

LFC may well be a bigger global brand than Arsenal but that does not mean the world wants to actually go to Liverpool. But the world could watch all of Liverpool’s matches on Amazon Prime for an exorbitant amount in the not too distant future.

I think that is what this is all about; Amazon getting control of the broadcasting / streaming of as much football as it can and getting clubs to sign up for individual arrangements. Bezos is probably viewing LFC as experiment.

The few million Bezos and Amazon would make through gate receipts would pale in comparison to the billions they could make through the global control of access to viewing matches.

I pay an exorbant amount to Sky, DAZN and BEIN to watch Liverpool games, surely all on Amazon would prove cheaper.

Also, Amit Bahia seemed to be well thought of by QPR fans, so that is a positive.

This is largely on the back of the football world cup which showed that more and more americans are taking up to the game.

It was only a matter of time before someone like Bezos made his move. A club being available for him at 1bn is likely pocket change for him. Bhatia and Severin do seem to have rather level heads and if Bezos is content with just being a financier (and have some benefits at the end with increased visibility to Amazon through sponsorships etc), it shouldn’t be a problem.

Wouldn’t hold my hopes high but surely Bhatia is there to be the public face whereas to Severin and Bezos, Liverpool FC remains an investment. Liverpool is a club with a huge fanbase, and the interest from USA is sky high now.
