The Owners - FSG (Part 2)

I hate it also. But the PL is now a billionaires paradise and I don’t think there are any moral billionaires. It’s not possible to accrue (and sit on) that amount of wealth and be a good person

Bhatia seems reasonable when concerned with his approach at QPR but yeah Bezos would make my blood curdle but as others say rich men do this.

Times mention its money into the club, when it comes to this type of thing I would suggest FT is the best place to get your news and certain extent Times. I want the club run well preferably by people who aren’t utter wankers and aren’t backed by a state.

Rather not but FSG are getting on and all. Not sure if they will sell, it may be a bit like Radcliffe at Man Utd.

To be fair how many times have the Glazers sold Man Utd to Radcliffe in the last 10 years. As I said follow places like the FT for this kind of news as you won’t go much wrong.

Yes the last 18 years have gone absolutely swimmingly at QPR.

Everything I’ve read about the potential investors so far has me feeling quite ill about the idea of them buying our club.

Well much improved on the 10 years previous to that off the pitch… probably been where you’d have expected them to be.

Anyhow he himself seems ok, It is more like Bezos and the like being involved.

One of the top Sports Law barristers is a QPR fan. They’ve needed him. A lot. :joy:

I don’t understand what possible interest Bezos would have in being part of a consortium to acquire a minority stake.

If he wants to make money, he’s doing quite well at that with his other interests! If he sticks to the things he knows about, it seems to be serving him quite well.

If he decides he wants the thrill/interest of being associated with a top sports team, then the question must be asked - is football his thing? He could have bought any American team, in multiple sports, that tickled his fancy.

So let’s assume he is drawn to football. Maybe he watched the Wrexham story, and thought, I want some of that. Obviously we are operating on a different level, but the game, the passion, the fans, the culture etc. … I could understand, just about, if someone like Bezos might want some of that.

So back to my question. Why would he want to be part of a consortium to acquire a minority stake? His wealth means that he could do the whole thing by himself, for relative chump change.

If I allowed myself to countenance the possibility for a second, I could almost imagine Liverpool as the crown jewel, with Amazon changing the way that football is ‘consumed’ (ugh) with the next raft of broadcasting deals moving strongly in the direction of streaming.

There would be a lot of money in that, and we could be something of a partner/pioneer, were Bezos to get involved.

All speculative, of course.

My read of it is they’ve approached him. The fact it all reads like a completely briefed story suggests to me they’re just using his name to try and lend some credibility and publicity around the whole thing.

If there’s real validity to his interest in being involved I’d guess it’s a relatively low cost, low risk and low involvement way of him dipping a toe in the water but he gets the fun of “being an owner” and showing off to his other billionaire mates. If he then decides he wants greater involvement he’s then got a way in.

Essentially he’d have a share of the 30% share so I doubt we’d see or hear from him on anything related to the club.

None of his creations or purchases (Only know of Twitter/X) are ego buys. I would think a club purchase/minority purchase at these prices are ego buys. FSG purchased a distressed asset, everyone else is buying for other reasons.

Keep Bezos the fuck away from our club.

Could be as simple as keeping the wife happy.

I disagree , if bezos buys into the club, musk’s vanity would make him want to invest in similar as they have a form of rivalry…again only my opinion.

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but I actually think a consortium including several billionaires, on top of retaining the FSG investors, is actually a good outcome for lfc. It makes it less likely we will be beholden to the whims of one idiotic billionaire ala Ratcliffe (or even worse Musk) and more likely to be run professionally through a board empowering a footballing executive.
