Personally I think it’s all because of Ronaldo’s interview.
I don’t like the upheaval, but it is difficult to form conclusions just yet.
The sequence appears to be:
Edwards leaves for a new challenge.
Long gardening leave so we don’t know where he will land.
Ward comes in, trained on the job, seemed a smooth transition.
FSG puts club up for sale, either in whole or part.
Ian Graham, top statto, decides to leave. Methodically.
Julian Ward decides to leave, more abruptly.
So, what are we to conclude?
I would imagine Edwards will form a new team wherever he lands, and will probably bring Graham in alongside. I hope it is not Newcastle, but fear it will be. He has had a long rest, will be refreshed, and now they will want to spend their money wisely as they look to get to the top. They can go big in the market to suit, but they will also be looking for value, no matter the price point. Edwards and Graham can deliver that.
My guess on Ward is that he hasn’t fully established his authority at Liverpool, and while he is an expert on the Portuguese market, our gaze has to be wider. Arguably Klopp wants this, while Ward recommends that, and a little tussle ensued which means Ward will depart. Just speculative on my part.
The other part of this is the probable sale of the club. Maybe it is more advanced than we expect, and part and parcel of that is a refresh behind the scenes.
During the uncertainty it would be nice if we have some good information. Perhaps Ward can sit down over a cup of tea with Piers Morgan, to fill us in?
My prediction is Jurgen will stay, new owners will be announced, and the background team will be refreshed, possibly with the structure changing too.
Timing will be everything, and if it’s not all lined up by January, then hopefully we at least get a quality midfielder in, as there’s a lot to play for this season, on the pitch, while off pitch issues resolve themselves.
Fucking Kathleen Kennedy putting all those women in Marvel again.
Not sure I agree on this, Ward is the figure head of the scouting department which has a world wide reach. Hunter and Fallows are still big players in that area, backed by the analytics etc.
I think the running joke of Ward only going to the Portuguese market is nothing but coincidence in the fact we’ve signed players from there recently. Tchouameni for example we bid for and he plays in France.
Could be that Ward has f***ed up the signing of Jude… slipped through our fingers so to speak
Yeah, it is noticeable we signed Konate and tried for Tchouameni, so clearly have an eye on the wider markets.
If there is an internal tussle it is perhaps more likely to be the more routine stuff (renewing contracts, letting them run down, spending a bit more on player x, how much to sell for) rather than too narrow a focus on the transfer market.
Don’t see how that would be the case, it’s always been a question of available funds and timing.
Fair enough, good points on Ward looking wider than Portugal.
Yeah, the stuff that was previously reported was a squabble over Hendo’s extension, something that the data guys were less keen on, or at least on the terms we eventually offered. IMO though, I think that is a reasonable area to defer to the man who picks the team, especially if there are intangibles about him he values.
Ultimately, no matter how collaborative an approach is there has to be an ultimate decision maker. Sometimes when it’s going well, who that is doesnt feel important, but once you have a couple of sticky outcomes all of a sudden there is more focus on that. From what has been reported going back to Edwards leaving, you can craft a speculative narrative of Edwards feeling that when push came to shove he didnt have the authority he thought his position should have and so walked, and then in his absence Klopp stepped in even more into that role with Ward, making him feel the position wasn’t what was sold to him.
Got to love being stalked round a forum with irrelevant (to the topic at hand) posts which are far less amusing than the author perceives… Still, the fact that you do makes me feel so good inside.
We won’t need all that naff stuff when the Norwegians buy us out.
I put this in the Jan window thread but ill leave here as well…
: The reality is Jude Bellingham already looks beyond Liverpool’s means unless a new investor is found or another star player is sold. Liverpool could only buy Darwin Nunez and afford Mo Salah’s contract because they sacrificed Sadio Mane.
Re the sell a star player - I think only Allison could go for more than he cost maybe Mo - but it makes no sense selling a keeper for a midfielder.
There does seem a lot of change happening so maybe we are closer to being sold that anyone knows.
my favorite part of all this is watching us normal folks trying to “solve” what’s happening in a multi-billion dollar business that’s a football club like we know what’s going on
hahahah @Semmy, by far the best comment!!
“private Sector”
Or they Kashogi whichever Saudi dares buy an EPL club to challenge their project.
Not the ex Tranmere player?
i bet they would support a bid,
but would we support them?
