You did at least imply it by saying you applauded them…
Think that’s what he meant, how could we reject joining (if it goes ahead) without surrendering any chance of competing.
I applauded them that they didn’t join this super league.
Definitely. There is already a huge backlash against the clubs by their own fans including our fanbase on social media. I was one of many protesters holding banners at the matches, when Hicks & Gillett were trying to liquidate the club
The outrage is indeed quite… outraged. Everyone venting off as well as being piss off at the league, the refs, VAR…
I would do it again, if needs be @GermanRed.
.
Implying that you think they did so for the ‘good of the game’ or disagreement with the concept, and not out of some political expediency…
Where most of the outrage generally gets vented in any case, deserved or not. As a barometer it is almost worthless as social media generally has no filter. Sorry Maria, that’s just the way I see it. Everyone wants to vent off at this, project big picture, not spending money, spending money. The FA, Premier League, Uefa etc hate this idea and its certainly not for altruistic reasons to ‘protect the game’. The game has been a capitalist wet dream for years now yet some still have this idealistic idea of it being a working class sport or something. It isn’t, it hasn’t been for years. Players playing their trade for clubs odds on to be relegated are driving Lambos or Ferraris or Bentleys. This idea that everything is about greed just now is a bleak picture that the powers who have lined their pockets for decades want fans just now to believe when fans were bled dry long, long ago.
The game was gone to money a long, long time ago, make no mistake about that. Everything evolves, do we really think that football will, or should, look like this 100 years or 200 years from now. Change will happen, it is the only constant after all. We willingly gave up the game to Sky and to money all those years ago, why is everyone so outraged now?
I wish we had a version of 50+1 rule, as in Germany.
We are not apparently leaving the PL, only the CL so how does that change VAR and everything else?
Secondary the comparisons with the formation of the PL are not quite right, I’m no fan of the PL riches but football was a mess in 1992, for all its ills it dragged the game out of a death spiral.
It’s also not the same of the 5 who broke to form the PL, two have almost been relegated, both could have within 6 years of the formation (Spurs and Everton).
It never locked in any guarantee of PL football and though for Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd it has remained roughly where we have been since, Spurs have only recently come back into that picture and Everton have been around 8th for a decade.
To me this league is effectively saying that 12 or so clubs will forever play at the top table, what happens if Roman gets bored? Milan? Who have spent the last decade in a state of decay) No guarantee outside of the PL and Spain that the domestic leagues won’t do well if those clubs were to be barred, it wouldn’t much surprise me if clubs splintered a side to turn up in the domestic competitions.
The closest comparison is the IPL, but it’s hard to draw comparisons really as though international cricket relented, it’s never really affected it due to when it’s played.
We may love the idea but listen to people like Jurgen Klopp who came up from the lower reaches of football to reach its pinnacle, this fundamentally changes football for good. As for UEFA and FIFA greed im on record on how shit I feel their changes to the CL and the WCC are.
PSG? Their chairman is massively in at UEFA, he has spent a lot of money and energy getting his feet under the table and power there… Another of the bent country owned teams influencing high up.
Both are devils, but sometimes you have to choose the lesser evil @Draexnael
I think its always hard to argue UEFA are ever the lesser evil. They’ve ran a corrupt, incompetent, very lucrative swindle job over European competition for a very very long time. If this knocks them down a peg or two, best yet gets them under some control or (maybe worst case) goes ahead and completely destroys their power etc. then that may be a blessing.
I don’t know enough about it to say if I am for or against. I’d need to see what the proposal is, who is in, and what it does to other football. At the moment all we have is a few threats (empty) from authorities running the game who themselves stand to lose a lot, and have adequately demonstrated they are unfit for purpose.
FIFA is corrupt.
UEFA is corrupt.
The Premier League formed in a similar manner and expanded the gap between haves and have nots. Live by the sword die by the sword. Always a bigger fish, etc.
The FA seems anachronistic now.
The Football League - who are they? I suppose Simon Jordan could tell us what we need to do.
The LMA - jobs for the boys, pints of wine all round.
The PFA - I’ve been out the country for over a decade but is Gordon Taylor still raking it in? He has earned many millions as a shop steward, running his own fiefdom.
The point being, I need to see some proper detail about the potential European Super League before I can say it is a good or a bad thing. At the least I can say that I am thankful we are of such stature that we are in the conversation.
As for the various governing bodies throughout the game? Shitshow, one and all. They are ALL guilty of trying to gain leverage to make more money.
UEFA are preparing a 60 BILLION EUROS lawsuit against the Europrean Super League’s founding clubs. [@Gazzetta_it]
(This includes Liverpool)
John making a sprint for the exit door now I’d say. Big statement in 5 mins supposedly
Well they did so well with their FFP, at the end of the day why do I feel that is at the source of all this.
Should be ashamed of themselves. Leeds tomorrow doesn’t matter now. Don’t think we are allowed into the champions league are we?? Still FSG, first you have furlonged staff, brought the ticket prices up now this. Get out of our club toxic Yanks. Stick to baseball. Surprised if Jurgen doesn’t walk end of season now.
You do bring up a good point, @Euphoria.
If Liverpool aren’t playing CL footy next season, instead going the ESL route, does tomorrow’s result really even matter now?
Nope I don’t think so. That is unless UEFA back down. And tbh I hope they don’t. I think this is more important than us in CL next year. We need to stop this power surge by owners
